Sleep Number is a smart mattress brand loved by NFL athletes and tech editors alike. Now it's launching a mattress for those who value app-free connectivity: the ComfortMode smart bed, with a queen available for $1,599 at Sleep Number.

If you want a bed that delivers simple comfort without the tech, check out our guide to the best mattresses of 2026.

"ComfortMode is designed for consumers who want the benefits of Sleep Number’s personalized sleep with a simple experience," explains Melissa Barra, Sleep Number’s EVP, Chief Product and Enterprise Strategy Officer.

"It features Sleep Number’s signature adjustable firmness on each side of the bed, controlled by an easy‑to‑use remote, with no app or connectivity required," she says.

This release is a strategic shift for Sleep Number, bringing its famous adjustable comfort to users who value simplicity.

As this year's best smart beds and mattresses grow increasingly advanced (and expensive) Sleep Number is instead stripping things back. Barra explains this release is driven by consumer feedback, as customers looked for controlled comfort that didn't require a smartphone.

"By offering a remote‑controlled option, Sleep Number makes adjustability more intuitive and accessible for a wider range of consumers," says Barra.

Of course, the ComfortMode features the brand's signature adjustable firmness (bye bye, back pain) and responsive comfort, all at just under $1,600 for a queen. That's a pretty unbeatable price for a smart bed. For reference, the entry-level Eight Sleep system (the Pod 4) starts at $2,649 for a queen, while the adjustable Bryte Balance mattress will set you back $3,499 for a queen.

In addition, Sleep Number is releasing a new adjustable base to accompany the ComfortMode mattress. Together, they allow you to fully customize your head and foot position as you fine tune the firmness of your mattress. The ComfortMode mattress with new base is priced $2,999 for a queen.

"Individually or in combination, they serve as a great entry point for consumers who want to experience Sleep Number comfort," says Barra.

Here's what we know so far about Sleep Number's new product duo...

Sleep Number ComfortMode: Price

Sleep Number cherishes value for money in its smart mattress line up and the ComfortMode continues this tradition.

The new ComfortMode mattress is available in sizes twin to California king (the adjustable base is sold in sizes twin XL and above.) Here are the current prices for the ComfortMode mattress without base:

  • Twin: $1,099
  • Twin XL: $1,199
  • Full: $1,299
  • Queen: $1,599
  • King: $1,899
  • Cal king: $1,899
  • Split king: $4,598

By comparison, the Sleep Number i8 smart bed, which boasts advanced cooling technology and auto-adjustments, is $3,599 for a queen. (Sleep Number appears to have discontinued its cheapest c1 and c2 smart bed models.)

Sleep Number mattress sales are semi-frequent but discounts rarely encompass the entire line-up and the most affordable beds are often absent from the sale.

However, keep an eye out around the major holidays (including the upcoming Presidents' Day mattress sale) and you might stand to save.

Sleep Number offers a 100-night trial and 15-year warranty with all its mattresses.

Sleep Number ComfortMode: Features

"ComfortMode expands the Sleep Number portfolio, giving consumers more choices based on their needs, preferences and budget," says Barra. "The new Sleep Number ComfortMode mattress is designed to deliver our unique personalized comfort in a simpler, more accessible way"

Marketed as 'the most comfortable' bed created by the sleep tech firm, the 10-inch ComfortMode mattress features 3.5 inches of comfort foam; thicker and denser than their previous entry-level models. Barra describes it as a "premium look and feel at under $1,600."

This upgraded comfort layer, combined with the temperature-balancing cover, is designed to relieve pressure points and deliver body-contouring support, with a responsive finish to alleviate aches and pains.

But where the ComfortMode, like all the best Sleep Number mattresses, gets truly smart is in the adjustable air chamber layer. With a dual layout, you can inflate or deflate these chambers to suit your firmness preferences independent of your partner, helping you find the ideal comfort for your body type and sleep position.

And yes, there's no mobile app. Instead it's controlled via a physical remote, making it ideal for those who prefer to disconnect before bed.

"What sets ComfortMode apart from Sleep Number’s existing lineup is its intentionally streamlined experience," says Barra. "The new mattress highlights the core benefit of adjustable firmness, and pairs it with straightforward, manual controls."

"This simplifies setup and use while maintaining the comfort, adjustability and quality for which Sleep Number is known."

What about the new bed base? Sleep Number’s newest adjustable base is designed to fit within or under almost any existing bed frame, thanks to its flush zero-clearance design. With this addition, customers will get head and foot adjustability, a zero gravity setting for back pain relief, and underbed lighting.

Barra explains that this release "broadens" the Sleep Number line-up, offering customers more choice depending on what they want; "whether that’s advanced sleep insights or simple, intuitive adjustability."

"Better sleep, powered by technology, remains at the heart of who we are, and ComfortMode builds on that foundation," says Barra.
