WWE WWE Royal Rumble 2026 predictions and storylines

  • Singles Match: AJ Styles vs. Gunther
  • WWE Championship Match: Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Sami Zayn
  • 30-Woman Royal Rumble Match
  • 30-Man Royal Rumble Match

Taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah Financial District, WWE Royal Rumble 2026 has the potential to be one of the standout events of the pro wrestling year.

As is ever the case with this annual Premium Live Event, the two Royal Rumble matches immediately grab the attention, with the winners of those bouts earning themselves a World Title shot at WrestleMania 42.

Where the women's Rumble is concerned, names like Rhea Ripley, Iyo Sky, Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss, Asuka, and Becky Lynch are amongst some of those to have already been confirmed for that match. Of course, as is ever the case at the Royal Rumble, it could well be that we'll see a few surprises play out, be that shocking returns, NXT appearances, or long-absent grapplers making their way back from injury.

Over on the men's side of things, Cody Rhodes was the first person to announce himself for the Royal Rumble match, and the American Nightmare has been joined by, amongst others, Roman Reigns, Gunther, Jacob Fatu, the Vision, and Oba Femi in attempting to earn that spot at WrestleMania 42. And when it comes to surprises, there are plentiful rumblings that the iconic Chris Jericho may return to WWE for the first time since WWE Raw's 25th anniversary special back in January 2018.

Speaking of iconic, AJ Styles certainly fits that bill and then some, and the Phenomenal One's illustrious career may well come to an end at WWE Royal Rumble 2026. With AJ desperate for a rematch against Gunther - who'll be pulling double-duty at this PLE - following the Ring General's underhanded tactics to beat Styles on Raw earlier this month, P1 was goaded into putting his career on the line at the Royal Rumble. Simply put, if AJ Styles loses against Gunther this weekend, he will be forced to retire.

Elsewhere, the four-match WWE Royal Rumble 2026 line-up is rounded out by the small matter of WWE Champion Drew McIntyre defending his gold against Sami Zayn. As is always the case, Sami is guaranteed a hero's welcome in Riyadh, but McIntyre will clearly be doing his best to make sure that he walks into WrestleMania 42 with the WWE Title around his waist.
