Following the experimental Mixed Doubles tournament last week, the 2025 US Open gets going properly on Sunday (a day earlier than the usual Monday) with Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka well set to defend their respective titles.
The name of Carlos Alcaraz will of course be in the mix during talk of who can topple Sinner — the pair have shared some epic tussles, not least their epic Wimbledon final. Or could we finally see the first homegrown champion since Any Roddick 22 years ago? The likes of Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Tommy Paul and Frances Tiafoe will also fancy their chances of going deep.
The U.S. women will be similarly confident, especially last year's losing finalist Jessica Pegula, plus Madison Keys and Coco Gauff who have both won Slams this year. Iga Świątek has bounced back from some poor form, winning Wimbledon and rocketing back to no. 2 in the world, while the likes of Mirra Andreeva, Jasmine Paolini and Amanda Anisimova are still hunting for their first major.
