The German sides dominated last season. SC Magdeburg beat Füchse Berlin in the final, claiming a 32-26 victory. It was the fifth time they have won this competition. They had previously knocked out Barcelona, and there is no doubt that the Catalan side will be wanting to win their fifth title in six years this time around. Paris Saint-Germain will be amongst the sides that also fancy their chances of going deep into the competition.

There are a huge number of excellent players in the EHF Champions League. Keep an eye on Barca goalkeeper Emil Nielsen, who made 181 saves from 70 shots as his side made it to the final four. His fellow Dane, Mathias Gidsel, was the top scorer last season for Füchse Berlin, netting 135 times. Line player Mijajlo Marsenić was something of a wall in defence for Füchse Berlin, getting in 9 blocks, as did HBC Nantes' Briet Thibaud.
