This Overlooked Hulu Comedy Is One of My Favorite Buddy Flicks in Years — Why You Should Stream It Now
If you like 'Booksmart' and 'Superbad,' 'Plan B' should be right up your alley

Few genres are as enjoyable as the buddy comedy. From "The Blues Brothers" to "Booksmart" to "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," watching a pair of close pals go on an adventure — whether for house-party booze ("Superbad") rent money ("One of Those Days"), schoolmate approval ("Romy and Michele's High School Reunion") or what have you — while navigating differing perspectives and shared experiences is always foolproof entertainment.
And though some examples of the genre have hit "watch them every time they're on" levels of love and lore ("Dumb & Dumber," "Thelma & Louise"), others haven't had a true chance to shine. Case in point: "Plan B," a 2021 charmer centered on two young women as they try to track down the titular emergency contraceptive.
Available to stream on Hulu, "Plan B" — not to be confused with the Canadian TV drama, the Brad Pitt-owned production company or the 2024 Brandon Tamburri-directed comedy of the same name — is one of the great coming-of-age adventures in recent memory, anchored by its two leading ladies Victoria Moroles and Kuhoo Verma. Need more convincing? Here's why you should add "Plan B" to your next Hulu watchlist.
What is 'Plan B' about?
After losing her virginity in a regrettable sexual encounter at a house party, Sunny (played by Kuhoo Verma) — a strait-laced Indian high school student in South Dakota — goes on a 24-hour hunt with her slacker best friend (Victoria Moroles) through America's heartland to track down a Plan B pill.
As they set off on a chaotic road trip in Sunny's mother's car, searching for the nearest Planned Parenthood in the conservative state, the girls soon encounter sketchy drug dealers, unmarked "birth control" pills and other hilariously unexpected detours.
Along with Verma and Moroles, the comedy features Michael Provost, Mason Cook, Jacob Vargas, Myha'la Herrold, Jolly Abraham, Timothy Granaderos and "Saturday Night Live" icon Rachel Dratch. And speaking of actors, the film is the directorial debut of Natalie Morales ("Grey's Anatomy," "No Hard Feelings"); it was co-written by Prathi Srinivasan and Joshua Levy.
Why you should you stream 'Plan B' on Hulu
Premiering a Hulu original on May 28, 2021, "Plan B" received positive reviews from critics upon its release, thanks to "Natalie Morales' assured direction and knockout performances by the two leads," writes The Hollywood Reporter critic Lovia Gyarkye..

The "spirited and affecting Hulu original" steers decisively clear of being a "tired rehash" of fellow morning-after movies, Gyarkye adds. "'Plan B' begins as a classic teen comedy that, over the course of roughly two hours, distinguishes itself as an empathetic and quick-witted portrayal of how two friends grow up together."
It's that mix of raucous humor, genuine heart, youthful relatability and refreshing substance — often a rarity in the buddy comedy genre — that earned the movie a stellar 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The site's critical consensus reads: "'Plan B' doesn't overplay its timely message — and it doesn't have to, thanks to a sharp, funny script and the sparkling chemistry between its charming stars."
