The LG C5 OLED is one of my favorite TVs ever made — and the 42-inch version is just $899 at Amazon during Prime Day

In tracking all of the best Amazon Prime Day TV deals, I've seen plenty of big-screen TVs on sale. So far, though, there are far fewer deals on TVs below 50 inches — screens that are tailor-made for smaller-sized living spaces.

If you're shopping for a more modestly sized TV this Prime Day (or for a TV that can function as a desktop monitor), there's really only one set I recommend above all else: the LG C5 OLED.

It was the only TV we reviewed last year to receive our coveted five-star rating. It's one of my favorite TVs ever made. And, right now, the 42-inch LG C5 is just $899 at Amazon. (For more TV recommendations, check out our Prime Day TV deals live blog).

We showered this OLED TV with praise for its sensational performance, its class-leading selection of features and its approachable price point. The C5 delivers all of the benefits we've come to expect from OLED displays, but its design, software and overall experience is the result of LG's excellent engineering.

The LG C5 comes from a long line of mid-range OLED TVs whose value is almost as impressive as its picture quality. It's not LG's highest-performing OLED, but it offers up an incredible viewing experience nonetheless.

OLED TVs deliver next-level contrast on account of the fact that they don't rely on a separate, LED-based backlight. Instead, every individual pixel is self-illuminating, which has a tremendously positive impact on picture quality.

For one thing, an OLED TV like the C5 is capable of perfect black levels, so you won't be distracted by light bloom around bright objects. OLEDs can also drive a ton of brightness to clusters of pixels, and during HDR content in particular, this creates a remarkable sense of depth.

The discounted, 42-inch C5 also arrives with just about every feature you could want for gaming, streaming and beyond. This is the primary reason why I recommend it to those in the market for a 42-inch gaming monitor.

It supports for 4K gaming at 120Hz on current-gen consoles (the top 4K spec for these systems), and up to 144Hz with VRR enabled for PC gamers. LG’s Game Optimizer mode puts all of the C5's most-useful gaming settings in a convenient quick-menu.

The 42-inch version of the LG C5 is destined to be one of the most popular TVs during Prime Day. Grab it while it's still in stock.
