I've covered 17+ Presidents' Day sales and these are the early deals I'd actually buy with my own money

The first retail holiday of 2026 is a week away. Presidents' Day doesn't get the attention of say, Black Friday, but I consider it a major retail holiday and a terrific opportunity to make any big — or small — purchases you've been holding off on.

I've been covering Presidents' Day sales for over 15 years and this year I'm making a few big-ticket purchases myself. My wife and I recently moved into a new apartment and we're on the hunt for new furniture, a soundbar, and a few smart home gadgets to fully automize our new space.

I'll also highlight deals I'm buying for myself, such as gym apparel, smart home gear, and more.

The QM5K has built-in Google TV features for all of your streaming needs, plus Dolby Vision support. Its handiest feature is its Mini-LED backlighting, which is difficult to find at this price point. Our best mattress in a box, the DreamCloud doesn't have the versatility (or the luxury finish) of the Saatva Classic, but it offers exceptional full-body support and quilted cushioning that's ideal for side sleepers. A queen is $699 in the DreamCloud mattress sale and that's the standard offer — we'll be surprised if it gets any cheaper on Presidents' Day. Plus, if you buy now you'll also get a free bedding bundle. An added bonus for a bed we described as "unbeatable value" in our DreamCloud Classic Hybrid Mattress review.
