I put Amazon's bestselling $30 pillows to the test — this is why I don’t agree with its 250,000 rave reviews

Best for: All sleepers
Firmness: Medium
Warranty: None
MSRP: from $59.99 at Amazon

While budget is an important factor to consider when shopping for pillows, can a cheap one really be the right option for your sleep? This was the question plaguing me prior to testing one of the most affordable picks on the market — the Amazon best-selling Beckham Hotel Collection Pillow, which currently has 30% off for Amazon Prime Day.

It's our best budget pillow of 2025, and I'm in the process of re-testing it, so I’ve been sleeping on the Beckham Hotel Collection Original Down Alternative (it's official name from the brand), for the past few days, noting down my initial experience and whether it really lives up to the 4.3 out of 5 stars it has from over 250K reviews on Amazon.

This pillow is only available to shop as a bundle, with a queen pack of two priced at $59.99. The current 30% off Amazon Prime Day mattress deal drops that to an even more budget-friendly $41.99 — the biggest discount we've seen. But is the simple pillow build (down-alternative polyester fill encased in a cotton cover) enough to guarantee ultimate comfort and support for all sleepers?

Beckham Hotel Collection Pillow: Price & deals

  • Beckham Hotel Collection pillows are only available to buy as a bundle
  • The MSRP of a queen pack is $59.99 but sales up to 30% off reduce the price
  • No sleep trial or warranty included

The main point to highlight is that the Beckham Hotel Collection Original Down Alternative pillows are available as a pack of two. A queen bundle will cost you $59.99 while a king is priced a $79.97.

This means that at full MSRP, you're effectively paying approximately $30 per pillow, which is markedly cheaper than brands like Coop Sleep Goods, Tempur-Pedic and Purple. For reference, a queen-sized, classic-shaped Coop Original Adjustable Pillow is $85, a small Tempur-Neck is $99 and an individual Purple GridCloud is $149.

The current 30% off for Amazon Prime Big Deal Days brings the price of a queen pack of two down to $41.99 (meaning around $21 per pillow), while a king pack of two is reduced to $55.98 (around $27.50 per pillow).

This is the biggest discount we've seen on this pillow, but I've also spotted it up to 25% off during major sale events like Amazon Prime Day in July and in Black Friday mattress sales; a reduction that means you're paying $22.5 per pillow.

While you can find frequent offers on the Beckham Hotel Collection Original Down Alternative throughout the year, it does not include a sleep trial or warranty. Regular shipping charges will apply depending on the third party website you're purchasing from (generally Amazon).

Available as a pack of two, a queen-size is priced at $59.99 MSRP while king-size will cost you $79.97. The current 20% discount brings the price of a queen pack down to $47.99, while a king pack is reduced to $63.97. Unfortunately, this doesn't include a sleep trial or warranty. Standard Amazon shipping charges apply.

Unboxing my Beckham Hotel Collection Pillow

  • It came rolled up and wrapped in plastic
  • Has to be rigorously fluffed up before use

Unboxing the Beckham Hotel Collection Pillow

The Beckham Hotel Collection pillow pack arrived in a cardboard box. Inside the box, I found two queen pillows rolled up and tightly wrapped in plastic film.

Upon cutting through the plastic, the pillows started unfurling. However, unlike the memory foam alternatives I've tried before, the Beckham pillow did not expand quickly. It remained wrinkly and deformed, until I had to rigorously fluff it up to take shape.

While the brand recommends to air out the pillow for several hours (exact number not mentioned), I did not notice any off-gassing.

My first week of sleeping on the Beckham Hotel Collection Pillow

Night 1: Plush comfort

After expanding completely, the Beckham Hotel Collection Original Down Alternative pillow turned out to be extremely plush and fluffy. My first impression was that it effectively mimicked the feel of a more expensive natural down pillow I've tried.

As a combination sleeper (side and back), I found the medium-firmness and plushness to work well to bridge the gap between my ear and shoulder.

While it does not include any cooling credentials, the 250 thread count cotton cover contributed to a breathable and comfortable sleep throughout the night.

Nights 2 to 7: Inconsistent support

After the first few nights, I noticed the Beckham Hotel Collection Original Down Alternative pillow became less supportive. I found myself being awake and shifting positions during the night, as the microfiber fill tends to flatten under the weight of my head.

It requires constant fluffing to maintain the shape and support, much more so than the Coop Original Adjustable, which is crafted from a memory foam and microfiber blend.

If you're someone like me, who requires a pressure relieving pillow that offers sink-in comfort, the Beckham might not be the right fit.

Based on my experience of testing the firm Tempur-Neck and the plush Purple GridCloud, this Beckham Hotel Collection pillow falls behind when it comes to providing both pressure relief and overall support.

Beckham Hotel Collection Pillow: My early thoughts

After sleeping on the Beckham Hotel Collection Original Down Alternative pillow for almost a week, I can say that it definitely does not match up to any of the premium alternatives in our guide.

Even though the medium-firmness and plushness of the Beckham mimics the overall feel and breathability of a natural down pillow, it takes constant effort to maintain its shape and support.

Despite 66% of the over 250K reviews on Amazon giving this pillow 5 stars, many users have highlighted that "it will lose the cloud-feel" after several months. This underlines that it possibly needs frequent replacing, which means losing money in the long run.

While I need more time to assess the performance of the Beckham Hotel Collection Original Down Alternative pillow (stay tuned for the full review), based on my first week experiences, it proved to be a simple and affordable pick which lost major points for lack of consistent support.
