What really goes on with the perfect couple behind closed doors? You may not want to know. "The Housemaid" explores just that, and with considerable gusto. Based on the best-selling novel by Freida McFadden, it follows a woman who accepts a live-in housekeeping job that seems positively idyllic — that is, until this supposedly perfect family unwittingly reveals the dirty secrets they've been hiding.

This thriller starring Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney is in theaters right now. But how long will it be before you can check it out without leaving the comfort of your own home?

When can we expect 'The Housemaid' to come to streaming?

As of right now, “The Housemaid” is still playing in theaters after opening nationwide on Dec. 19, 2025. But if you’d rather watch it at home, you shouldn’t have to wait too long.

Based on the usual timing for Lionsgate films, "The Housemaid" is expected to hit premium video-on-demand (PVOD) services sometime between January 13 and January 20, 2026, when you’ll be able to rent or buy it digitally on services like Amazon and Apple TV. Physical media is on the way, too: a 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD release is currently listed for March 17, 2026 in the U.S.

As for when “The Housemaid” will be available with a streaming subscription, it’s expected to land first on Starz in spring 2026, likely around March or April, under Lionsgate’s output deal.

After that initial Starz window, it should eventually move to Prime Video as a second-run streaming option, and could later show up on free platforms like the Roku Channel. That might be some time away from now, however, so your fastest bet is to buy or rent it.

“The Housemaid” centers on Millie Calloway (Sydney Sweeney), a woman on probation who’s desperate for a fresh start. When she lands a job as a live-in maid with the wealthy Winchester family, it looks like her chance to get her life back on track.

It's perfect on paper: a free room in the attic, steady pay, and a shot at some stability. But the room locks from the outside, the window doesn’t open, and the couple who lives there has some, we'll just say, issues.

Millie’s new boss, Nina Winchester (Amanda Seyfried), is an unpredictable wife and mother who keeps her guessing. After Millie moves in, she starts to uncover some strange pieces of the family’s history and realizes the Winchesters’ secrets may be more dangerous than anything in her own past. Soon, Millie finds she also may be falling for the handsome Mr. Winchester as well ....
