Released back in June, F1: The Movie follows Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), an old-school driver making a comeback to Formula 1 thirty years after leaving the sport following a near-fatal crash. On his return, he is paired with the new up-and-coming star and teammate Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), whose self-confidence is immediately thrown in our face. The clash between the two drivers is the focus of a large portion of this film.
Sonny remains the reckless but incredibly fast driver he has always been, taking rule bending to new extremes in this story. Along the way, he also finds a love interest in his technical director Kate McKenna (Kerry Condon), who as ever performs to the best of her ability.
Being a fully brand-licensed film, it gives viewers a deeper look at the life of F1 drivers, with appearances from across the grid. Lewis Hamilton is credited as a producer, and four-time World Champion Max Verstappen even earns a nod from Sonny for one of his scripted on-track moves.
It is a perfect film for F1 fans, but it also works for anyone who enjoys a mix of drama and action.
