An England victory at Latvia's Daugava Stadium will see Thomas Tuchel's men punch their ticket to the World Cup with two games to spare — and formally eliminate Paolo Nicolato's Group K strugglers from contention. One person of note who'll be following the 2026 World Cup Qualifier like the rest of us is Jude Bellingham.

They may be on the cusp of qualification, but until lately, Tuchel's England reign had been a thoroughly uninspiring ride. The breakthrough came only last month, when Bellingham and Palmer were injured and Phil Foden didn't make the squad. Morgan Rogers got the nod in the No.10 role, ahead of Eberechi Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White, and all of a sudden everything clicked.

The Aston Villa man had dazzled in the same lineups as Bellingham and Palmer, albeit in a much-reduced capacity. With Rogers as the team's main creative fulcrum, however, England have looked outstanding. The 23-year-old scored one and set up another in the 3-0 victory over Wales, to go with his assist against Serbia.

Waiting to be put out of their misery are Latvia, who look set to miss out on an 11th major tournament in a row. The world's 137th-ranked team is on a six-game winless run and coming off a 2-2 draw to 174-ranked Andorra. Worst still, two of their best players, captain and Aberdeen midfielder Kristers Tobers and Arminia Bielefeld striker Roberts Uldrikis, are injured. They could do with bringing Marians Pahars out of retirement.
