To point out the obvious, one of the standout events will be the men's 100m, which sees Olympic 100m champion Lyles go toe-to-toe with Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo. Tebogo, who cuts an understated figure next to Lyles — who doesn't? — was named the men’s World Athlete of the Year in 2024, after securing Botswana's first-ever Olympic gold in a stunning upset.
Similarly, Alfred became Saint Lucia’s first-ever Olympic gold medalist by winning the women’s 100m last summer. Bol is eyeing her fifth Diamond League Final title in the women’s 400m hurdles, and has been boosted by the absence of world record holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, while Karsten Warholm is the favorite in the men's race.
Duplantis looks set to win his fifth consecutive Diamond League title in the men’s pole vault, and would love to pull it off with a new world record, with all-conquering Yaroslava Mahuchikh out for four in a row in the women's high jump.
