With 64 new movies landing on Prime Video this May 2026, choosing what to watch can feel a little overwhelming. Instead of wasting time endlessly scrolling, I’ve narrowed things down into a handy list so you can jump straight into something actually worth your time.
After taking a close look at everything hitting Prime Video in May, it’s clear not all of it is worth adding to your watchlist. So I’ve done the hard work and narrowed it down to the movies you should prioritize. That includes a dark fantasy horror based on a classic fairytale, one of Simon Pegg’s best action-comedy movies, and an iconic thriller starring Denzel Washington.
With that in mind, these are the five new-to-Prime Video movies I’d recommend checking out first.

‘Gretel & Hansel’ (2020)
I think everyone knows the classic fairytale by the Brothers Grimm, about two young children who discover a house made of sweets owned by a witch who traps them. It’s a pretty sinister story, which is why it’s inspired several adaptations since it was first published in 1812. One of those is the horror film “Gretel & Hansel,” which shifts the focus to Gretel and takes a darker, more atmospheric approach compared to the original story.
“Gretel & Hansel” follows teenage Gretel (Sophia Lillis) and her younger brother Hansel (Samuel Leakey) after they are forced to leave home and venture into a dense forest in search of food and work. During their journey, they encounter strange visions and a mysterious huntsman before discovering an isolated house filled with fresh meals. The woman who lives there welcomes them in and offers shelter, but Gretel grows increasingly uneasy as unsettling events unfold.

‘Hot Fuzz’ (2007)
“Hot Fuzz” has to be the best movie in the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy. If you didn’t already know, it’s a British film series directed by Edgar Wright and starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. While “Shaun of the Dead” and “The World’s End” are both great films, I still have to rank “Hot Fuzz” at No. 1. Not only was it the one my partner first introduced me to in this brilliantly funny trilogy, but it’s also one of the few films that has made me laugh until my stomach hurts, even after multiple rewatches.
A big-city police officer, Nicholas Angel (Pegg), is reassigned to a quiet rural village after his superiors decide his exceptional record makes others look bad. He struggles to adjust to life with his easygoing new partner, Danny Butterman (Frost), and the seemingly uneventful town, where minor incidents are treated as routine and heavily downplayed. However, after a series of unusual and increasingly violent “accidents,” Angel begins to suspect something more serious is happening beneath the surface.

‘Long Shot’ (2019)
If you’re in the mood for a seriously charming romantic comedy, “Long Shot” should be on your watchlist this weekend. The film’s success mainly stems from the chemistry between Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron, who you wouldn’t think would work on paper, but they do. It’s a genuinely funny film with plenty of heart, and it’s surprisingly sweet in places. Plus, sometimes all you need is a heartwarming comfort watch that dares to be a little different.
“Long Shot” is about a struggling journalist, Fred Flarsky (Rogen), who unexpectedly reconnects with his childhood babysitter, Charlotte Field (Theron), who is now a powerful U.S. Secretary of State and preparing to run for president. When Charlotte hires Fred as her speechwriter, the two begin working closely together and end up travelling the world. As they continue working closely, their relationship slowly evolves beyond a purely professional one, all while Charlotte’s presidential campaign faces growing political challenges that threaten her future.

‘The Equalizer’ (2014)
I feel like “The Equalizer” doesn’t need much explanation, given it’s one of the most well-known action-thriller films, and one of Denzel Washington’s best flicks. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, it’s a gritty, stylised neo-noir action thriller that reimagines the 1980s TV series of the same name. It marked the beginning of a successful franchise and solidified Washington’s status as a modern action icon. At its heart, the film explores justice versus law, and whether a person can ever truly leave their past behind.
“The Equalizer” is about a quiet man named Robert McCall (Washington), a retired black-ops operative living a low-profile life in Boston while working at a hardware store. He keeps to himself, helps coworkers, and spends time at a diner where he befriends a young woman who is being controlled by a criminal gang. When she is badly harmed, McCall decides to step in and confront the people responsible. His initial attempt to help soon expands into a wider pursuit of those connected to what happened to her.

‘Wargames’ (1983)
Lastly we have “Wargames,” a definitive Cold War techno-thriller directed by John Badham, and is widely credited with introducing the general public to the concepts of hacking, cybersecurity, and the potential dangers of AI. It also has the distinct "high-tech" optimism and existential dread of the early 1980s. The film was actually nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Original Screenplay and Best Cinematography.
“WarGames” centers around teenage computer hacker, David (Matthew Broderick), who accidentally connects to a U.S. military supercomputer designed to simulate nuclear war scenarios. Believing he has found a new video game, he starts interacting with the system and unknowingly triggers a series of events that make the military think an actual nuclear attack may be underway. The system continues running large-scale simulations of global conflict while authorities try to determine whether the threat is real or a mistake.
