These trending Netflix movies are actually worth the hype
If you're looking for a slice of escapism this weekend, we don't blame you. Thankfully, the best streaming services are making that easier, with a ton of new movies to choose from for a break from doomscrolling through the latest horrifying headlines.
To skip the scrolling and get to streaming, I keep an eye on the Netflix top 10 list of most-watched movies for an idea of what everyone's buzzing about. Granted, not every movie that makes the cut is going to be an instant must-watch. There are plenty of overhyped duds among the gems. That's why I'm here every weekend to highlight the best of the bunch, because no one wants to waste their precious streaming time on a stinker.
This week, that includes a breezy new romcom based on a best-selling novel, a riveting true crime documentary, and a still-thriving K-pop phenomenon. None of these picks fit the vibe? Our guide to everything new on Netflix this month is packed with recommendations. Here are the three must-watch movies in Netflix’s top 10 this weekend. Enjoy!
This article is based on Netflix's top 10 movies list in the U.S. as of 11:00 a.m. ET on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
Best movies in the Netflix top 10
'The People We Meet on Vacation' (2026)
Since Emily Henry's first novel to get the big-screen treatment, "People We Meet on Vacation," was announced in 2022, four more of her best-selling novels were picked up for adaptations. It's clear to see why after Netflix's new sun-splashed romcom wasted no time crashing the #1 spot in the top 10. A pair of unlikely college best friends, free-spirited Poppy (Emily Bader) and type A control freak Alex (Tom Blyth), have grown apart over the years and try to revive their annual summer tradition of spending one week together on vacation.
But their shifting dynamic takes a turn when the pair begins to see what all their friends and family have been telling them for ages, leading them to question whether their friendship could spark into something more. "The People We Meet on Vacation" earned a 79% critics score and 85% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, a solid showing for a sunny slice of escapism to chase away the winter blues.

'Evil Influencer: The Jodi Hildebrandt Story' (2025)
Netflix subscribers can't seem to get enough of true crime documentaries, and the latest, "Evil Influencer: The Jodi Hildebrandt Story," comes from the undisputed queen of the genre. Director Skye Borgman first rose to fame with 2017's "Abducted in Plain Sight," and last year saw an impressive four new documentaries come to Netflix, each diving into the kind of depraved, only-in-America scandal that generates plenty of social media buzz.
This documentary sheds light on Jodi Hildebrandt, a Utah therapist who was arrested in 2023 on child abuse charges in connection with her former business partner and parenting YouTuber Ruby Franke. The pair racked up over 2 million subscribers with their YouTube channel promoting strict parenting advice before it all came crashing down in 2023 when Franke's 12-year-old son fled to a neighbor's house to beg for food and water. Shocking revelations from the ensuing investigation uncovered horrific acts of abuse, but like most true crime stories, this is one rabbit hole that only gets more bizarre the further down you go.

'K-Pop Demon Hunters' (2025)
Even after all its explosive success last year, "K-Pop Demon Hunters" isn't done topping the charts yet. Netflix subscribers are still helping Huntrix seal the Honmoon en masse with this earworm-filled animated adventure now in its seventh straight month in the top 10. Though it's fallen from the # 1 spot, these days it's joined by the film that put Sony Pictures Animation on the map, "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," which should make for a fun double feature.
"K-Pop Demon Hunters" follows three K-pop stars, Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo), the latest in a long line of demon hunters who shield the world from supernatural evils with their harmony. They face their biggest challenge yet when a group of demons parading as a rival boy band comes after the hearts and souls of their fans. To win the day, though, first they'll have to tackle their own inner demons that have kept them isolated and afraid from truly embracing who they are.
