3 new to Netflix shows to binge-watch this weekend (Jan. 23-25)
These are the Netflix shows to have on your watchlist
As we get closer to the end of January, there’s at least some comfort in knowing the worst of the January blues should soon be behind us. A new month is on the horizon, and with it comes the perfect excuse to reset, armed with a properly suited-up watchlist. Still, some weekends call for something simpler.
January has a habit of dragging, and when the weather isn’t playing along, settling into a gripping TV series can feel like the easiest form of escapism. Fortunately, Netflix continues to roll out a steady stream of new releases. That said, with so many shows dropping at the start of the month, it’s not always obvious which ones are actually worth committing your time to. So, here are three new to Netflix shows that deserve a spot on your weekend watchlist.
‘Finding Her Edge’ (2026)
Still thinking about “Heated Rivalry”? Netflix might have a bingeable romance series in the world of competitive sport that can help pass the time until its confirmed second season drops. “Finding Her Edge” certainly isn’t the kind of prestige series that’s chasing awards buzz, but that’s not really the point when it comes to cheesy romantic dramas. What it does offer, though, is an easy watch that’s hard to overthink and simple to enjoy. Sometimes, that’s exactly what you need on a weekend.
“Finding Her Edge” follows 17-year-old Adriana Russo (Madelyn Keys), a former elite figure skater who steps back onto the rink to help her family’s struggling skating business stay afloat. When her sister’s injury opens a door for her return, Adriana partners with Brayden (Cale Ambrozic), a confident new teammate, and together they train for high-stakes competition while publicly presenting a pretend relationship to secure crucial sponsorship. Complicating matters, her former partner and first love re-enters her life as a rival.

‘Sandokan’ (2025)
For those who want something a little more intense this weekend, “Sandokan” could be exactly what you need. This Italian action-adventure series is based on the novels by Emilio Salgari, essentially rebooting the classic pirate saga for a new audience. The series launched with huge viewership on Italian TV, drawing millions of viewers and topping the ratings, which is pretty strong evidence of audience interest. Not to mention, it’s already been confirmed for a second season!
“Sandokan” is set in the mid‑19th century in Borneo, where the pirate Sandokan (Can Yaman) and his trusted right‑hand Yanez (Alessandro Preziosi) sail the South China Sea with their crew, attacking British‑controlled ships and living by their own rules. During a raid near the British consulate in Labuan, Sandokan encounters Marianna (Alanah Bloor), the daughter of the British consul, sparking a powerful connection that complicates his life. Their evolving relationship draws the attention of Lord James Brooke (Ed Westwick), a determined pirate hunter who seeks to capture Sandokan.

‘Rizzoli & Isles’ (2010)
I’ve always found that crime dramas make for a compelling binge-watch, especially when they have strong central leads and each episode focuses on a different case with a few ongoing storylines in the background. “Rizzoli & Isles” is the perfect example of this classic procedural, and its good dose of humor and lean storytelling keep you invested. Most importantly, the two leads have solid chemistry, making the gritty and (sometimes violent) drama all the more engaging. There are also seven seasons to binge-watch!
“Rizzoli & Isles” follows Boston Homicide detective Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) and Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander) as they work together to solve complex criminal cases. Jane is a determined, street‑smart detective, while Maura is an impeccably dressed forensic expert whose scientific expertise helps uncover key details in investigations. Over the seasons, the two form a strong professional partnership and work through a range of challenging cases involving murder and other violent crimes.
