Hulu is one of the best streaming services for watching new movies. Not only does it regularly add classics to its library, but, because it's owned by Disney, it's the streaming home for new releases from several Disney-owned studios. It's also the streaming home for new releases from a handful of notable indie studios.

Genre: Supernatural Western thriller

What's it about? In the Wild West of 1849, a freed slave (DeWanda Wise) has come to believe her white daughter (Emily Ford) is possessed ... because everything she touches dies. Now, Dr. Bender (Guy Pearce) might be her only hope of saving the girl.

Why you should watch it: If you like a supernatural thriller, then this one certainly looks like a fun time. Plus, the cast is surprisingly loaded for an indie movie, with Bill Pullman also in the cast alongside Pearce and Wise.

'It Was Just an Accident' (2025)

Genre: Iranian thriller

What's it about? "It Was Just an Accident" centers around a man who comes into an auto shop after a freak car accident. Things take a twist when a group of former Iranian political prisoners recognizes the man ... as their prison tormentor. Now, they have to decide if they're sure it's him and if they want revenge.

Why you should watch it: While this movie was snubbed from the Best Picture race, it's still a must-watch. It won the Palme d'Or at Cannes, was nominated for multiple Golden Globes and is currently up for a pair of Academy Awards, even if it missed out on the big prize. Plus, this film was filmed without the consent of the Iranian government, making it an important piece of political art.

'The Secret Agent' (2025)

Genre: Brazilian political thriller

What's it about? "The Secret Agent" stars Wagner Moura as Armando. A former professor, he is a political dissident against the current Brazilian military dictatorship and embroiled in the political upheaval gripping the country. That's put him in danger, and now he has to try and stay one step ahead of persecution from the government.

Why you need to watch it: This movie is nominated for several Oscars this year, including Best Picture and Best International Feature Film. Moura is also a serious contender to take home Best Actor at the Oscars after winning the award at the Golden Globes.
