This month's top streaming movies: March 2026

It's OK if you miss a great movie or two in theaters. I watch movies for a living, and even I can't catch every film when it comes out. Even if you're a cinephile trying to see every movie when it comes out, life sometimes gets in the way and prevents you from making it out to the cinema.

So, now the question becomes: Which movie should you stream first? Lucky for you, that's why we're here. At Tom's Guide, our staff watches hundreds of movies each year so that we can give you our expert takes on many of the new movies coming out in theaters and streaming services. Below, you'll find our opinions on the top theatrical releases coming to streaming this month, as well as the full calendar of every movie that's finally coming to streaming in March 2026.

Top movies to stream this March

'It Was Just an Accident' (Hulu)

IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT - Official Trailer - In Theaters October 15 - YouTube IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT - Official Trailer - In Theaters October 15 - YouTube
Watch On

Genre: Iranian thriller

What's it about? A group of former Iranian political prisoners has a chance at revenge when a freak car accident brings a man into an auto shop who may have been their tormentor in prison.

Why you should watch it: It won the Palme d'Or at Cannes, was nominated for multiple Golden Globes and is currently up for a pair of Academy Awards. TG's Rory Mellon declared it "one of the year’s most impactful and important thrillers" when he selected it as one of the 10 best movies you (probably) missed in theaters in 2025.

Stream "It Was Just an Accident" on Hulu starting March 1

'The Secret Agent' (Hulu)

THE SECRET AGENT - Official Trailer - In Select Theaters November 26 - YouTube THE SECRET AGENT - Official Trailer - In Select Theaters November 26 - YouTube
Watch On

Genre: Brazilian political thriller

What's it about? This thriller centers around Armando (Wagner Moura), a former professor and political dissident. Caught up in the political upheaval caused by the Brazilian military dictatorship of the 1970s, he has to try and stay one step ahead of the government, even if it means he ultimately needs to flee his home.

Why you need to watch it: "The Secret Agent" has racked up numerous awards en route to this year's Oscars. It's also nominated for several Academy Awards, including what my colleague Rory declared "a deserved Best Picture nomination." The main attraction is Moura, who puts on an incredible performance and is a serious contender to take home the Oscar for Best Actor.

Stream "The Secret Agent" on Hulu starting March 1

'A Private Life' (PVOD)

A PRIVATE LIFE | Official Trailer (2026) - YouTube A PRIVATE LIFE | Official Trailer (2026) - YouTube
Watch On

Genre: Black comedy mystery thriller

What's it about? "A Private Life" stars Jodie Foster as Dr. Lilian Steiner, an American psychiatrist living and working in Paris. She treats a wide range of patients, but becomes obsessed with the only one of them who isn't living, Paula (Virginie Efira), a striking blonde woman who has mysteriously died at the start of the film.

Why you should watch it: This movie is a "Black comedy mystery thriller." And while that seems totally made up, it's an apt description for this surprisingly trippy and funny investigation of a patient's death. The real reason to see the movie, though, is Foster's transformative performance, almost entirely in flawless French. It's so good even the French approved of it.

'Hamnet' (Peacock)

HAMNET - Official Trailer [HD] - Only In Theaters This Thanksgiving - YouTube HAMNET - Official Trailer [HD] - Only In Theaters This Thanksgiving - YouTube
Watch On

Genre: Historical fiction drama

What's it about? "Hamnet" is based on Maggie O'Farrell's novel of the same name. It stars Jesse Buckley and Paul Mescal as Agnes and William Shakespeare, and is somewhat historically accurate. The movie starts with their budding relationship, but then transitions into a deeply emotional story about how their son, Hamnet, influenced the play "Hamlet."

Why you need to watch it: This movie will almost certainly make you cry; it almost got me three separate times. It delivers one emotional hammer blow after another, and in the end, you're left devastated. Jessie Buckley's performance as Agnes is all but guaranteed to be a future Oscar winner, so watch it on Peacock starting March 6 to see for yourself.

Stream "Hamnet" on Peacock starting March 6

'Nuremberg' (Netflix)

NUREMBERG | Official Trailer #1 (2025) - YouTube NUREMBERG | Official Trailer #1 (2025) - YouTube
Watch On

Genre: Historical drama movie

What it's about: "Nuremberg" retells the famous Nuremberg trials that followed the end of World War II. But it's centered largely around the relationship between U.S. Army psychiatrist Douglas Kelley (Rami Malek) and his most infamous patient: Hermann Göring (Russell Crowe), Reichsmarschall of Nazi Germany, rather than the tribunal proceedings

Why you should watch it: While this isn't the best WWII movie ever made, there's a good reason to watch it. Malek and Crowe are excellent as Kelley and Göring, particularly Crowe as the former Nazi leader.

Stream "Nuremberg" on Netflix starting March 7

'The Testament of Ann Lee' (PVOD)

THE TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE | Official Teaser | Searchlight Pictures - YouTube THE TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE | Official Teaser | Searchlight Pictures - YouTube
Watch On

Genre: Epic historical musical drama

What's it about? "The Testament of Ann Lee" stars Seyfried as Ann Lee, leader of the Shakers. This was a branch of the Quaker sect of Christianity that left England for the American colonies, particularly the mid-Atlantic and American Midwest. Ann was viewed as a religious firebrand, advocating for gender equality, communal living, ecstatic devotion to Christ (the dancing that gave her followers the name "Shakers") and abstinence. She was even viewed by many of her followers as the female embodiment of Christ.

Why you should watch it: I'm not huge on musicals typically, but the choreography of the Shaker dances blew me away. And while Jesse Buckley is going to be a deserving Best Actress winner for "Hamnet," Seyfried gives her a run for her money as the titular Ann Lee. It's perfect casting, thanks to Seyfried's talent for song and dance numbers.

Buy or rent "The Testament of Ann Lee" from Amazon [PVOD] starting March 10

'Wicked: For Good' (Peacock)

Wicked: For Good | Official Trailer - YouTube Wicked: For Good | Official Trailer - YouTube
Watch On

Genre: Musical fantasy

What's it about? "Wicked: For Good" is the second half of this blockbuster adaptation of the musical "Wicked." In this reimagining of "The Wizard of Oz," the protagonist is Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West and the movie retells her complicated relationship with her college roommate, Galinda, aka Glinda the Good, using song and dance.

Why you need to watch it: If you saw "Wicked" and loved it, but have been waiting to watch "Wicked: For Good," now is the time, since you can stream it as part of your Peacock subscription. It's not as good as the first movie, but I found it surprisingly enjoyable.

Stream "Wicked: For Good" on Peacock starting March 20

'Sentimental Value' (Hulu)

SENTIMENTAL VALUE - Official Trailer - In Theaters 11.7 - YouTube SENTIMENTAL VALUE - Official Trailer - In Theaters 11.7 - YouTube
Watch On

Genre: Norwegian drama

What's it about? This drama from acclaimed director Joachim Trier follows sisters Nora (Renate Reinsve) and Agnes (Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas) as they reunite with their estranged father Gustav (Stellan Skarsgård), whom they haven't seen in decades. He also brings Rachel (Elle Fanning) into their lives, and the daughters resent him for his empathetic treatment of her.

Why you need to watch it: TG Managing Streaming Editor Kelly Woo was blown away by "Sentimental Value," declaring it one of her top movies of 2025. "It captures the push and pull of nostalgia: how comforting it can feel, how heavy it can become. By the time it ended, I felt like I’d lived alongside these characters, carrying their history with me."
