Over the last few weeks, HBO Max's "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" has been taking us back to Westeros to bring the story of Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), to life, and this latest "Game of Thrones" spinoff has proven to be another phenomenal fantasy show.
After those last two episodes, I feel more than confident arguing that this will almost certainly go down as one of my favorite shows of the year, and now can't wait to see the fallout from that climactic battle last week.
Looking ahead to the "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" finale this weekend, you can see there's chatter about a forthcoming war, Dunk faces an audience with Maekar Targaryen, and he sure seems "done with princes" ... but would he really turn his back on his bald pal after all that trouble?!

Is 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' season 2 happening?
If you're not yet ready to say goodbye to Dunk and Egg, you'll be pleased to know that "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" isn't going anywhere. HBO has already confirmed this second "Game of Thrones" spinoff will be back to recount the next of Dunk and Egg's adventures.
The "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" renewal was confirmed back in November 2025. At that time, Casey Boys, Chairman and CEO, HBO and HBO Max Content, confirmed the show would be returning; expect it to air at some point in 2027.
"House of the Dragon," meanwhile, will return for its third season this summer, and the fourth — which we already know will be the show's last — is currently planned for 2028.

What's more, showrunner Ira Parker has major plans to continue exploring much more of Dunk and Egg's lives. Speaking with Esquire, Parker shared they'd be interested in continuing to return to both characters as they aged.
Asked how many seasons they've planned, Parker said: "The truth is—and I've pitched this to HBO with a couple very polite eye rolls—I want to do four or five now with Egg as a kid. Then, I want to come back in 10 years and do four or five more seasons with Egg the Prince.
"And with real Dexter [Ansell] and real Peter, just the age that they are at that point. Then, we’ll come back ten years after that and do well, Egg the adult. So, it would be over the course of their lifetime. And mine too."
Whether or not we get to know Dunk and Egg that well remains to be seen, but it at the very least sounds like we'll be getting to know our new favorite "Game of Thrones" duo for some time yet.
"A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" draws on three novellas that "Game of Thrones" creator George R.R. Martin published between 1998 and 2010, though those three stories were collected together in the "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" anthology back in 2015, complete with illustrations from Gary Gianni.
If you'd prefer not to have the story spoiled, you won't want to read ahead, but if you can't wait for Dunk and Egg's next adventure, you can read ahead to see what trouble the pair lands themselves elsewhere in the realm, beyond Dunk's climactic battle with Aerion Targaryen.

Martin is a Streaming Writer at Tom’s Guide, covering all things movies and TV. If it’s in the theaters or available to stream somewhere, he’s probably watched it… especially if it has a dragon in it. Before joining the team, he was a Staff Writer at What To Watch where he wrote about a broad range of shows that stretched from "Doctor Who" and "The Witcher" to "Bridgerton" and "Love Island". When he’s not watching the next must-see movie or show, he’s probably still in front of a screen playing massive RPGs, reading, spending a fortune on TCGs, or watching the NFL.
