VIDEO: N64 Emulator Running on the iPad
You've seen Windows 95 running on the iPad via a Bochs emulator but what about an N64 emulator?
It didn't take long for someone to jailbreak the iPad and the hack comes courtesy of Geohot (the same hacker working to keep Linux support on the PS3) and Twitter user @comex. Below is a video of Apple's iPad running a Nintendo 64 emulator.

This is cool and all, but WHERE IS MY Adobe CS5 news??!?!?
But it is missing so many buttons! How could I play Zelda on that?
Lol i want to see it play golden eye!
I can see Miyamoto shaking his fist from here!
very nostalgic but i could see problems with the input system, would love to see it playing star fox 64...

DO A BARREL ROLL... PRESS A TO SHOOT...
One day Apple will take the hint, but only when Lord Jobs steps down (again) or dies.
But then again I can see Apple replacing whatever failed organ with an iPhone Iron Man-style just to keep him alive...

what a genius anything is possible with software as far as i know.
@comex ps give us the ps3 hack!
Emulators available for my N900:
1) PlayStation
2) Atari
2) Falcon
3) Nintendo NES
4) MAME
5) Sega
6) Gameboy Advance
7) Commodore
8) Sinclair ZX
i'd take one of those ...
Reminds of the Nester emulator running on Windows Mobile. Controls are excellent assuming your unit has hard keys... Punchout anyone?
yes. but will apple allow the program in the app store or will you need to jailbreak it?
The iPad is fantastic. So fantastic I need to emulate Linux, Windows 95 and a retro gaming console to experience anything with it my good old iPod can't offer.
However, the cult of Jobs ensures me this is a revolution. Even more revolutionary than its last revolution. After all, the Church of Jobs is your last hope of salvation.
But just how many converts would they have if websites like this one stopped posting every god damn rumour about anything Jobs and his cultists do?
Lol i want to see it play golden eye!
Ah.. Golden Eye, that brings back memories....
enough with the effing iPad!!!!!!
This is a 'so what' sort of thing. It emulates an ancient console system. So what?
Touchscreen = awful controls.
No usb ports = no plug and play controller
Also, N64 emulators have been run on netbooks etc. with much better results... how come Tom's doesn't report on that? Oh wait, it's the iPad... therefore if it manages to do something worse than its competition it's amazing.
Did the creator of this EMU forget that N64 had a lot more then just 2 buttons?
Bluetooth controller. That is all.
Would be cool if I could hook up some sort of controller.
enough with the effing iPad!!!!!!
You never had to click the link dude.

Say nothing and it makes it seem like all the iPad articles don't bother anyone. There have been WAY too many of them recently, taking up the space of other more interesting articles.
I can't imagine how many people are crying to themselves, "That's not an N64 controller!! WTF!?"
this looks totally fake!!! and yea using a NES controller is not going to work.... fake!!
Move along .. Nothing to see here
Crysis anyone?

Erm... Articles about the facial expression of Jobs when he had a wafer at 4 PM?
Without enough buttons its not going to be too fun to play.
Remember, We had emulators for years anyway.
It won't be so popular, the controls are too hard (unintuitive)

+1, but in fairness, this isn't an article promoting the ipad, which I'm sick of, its an article about hackers sticking it to the man (a particularly stupid, evil man in this case)! which I like!
also, technically, it looks like an n64 emulator running inside the iphone emulator on the ipad. and ipad specific app would be better, more res, more buttons! but still no match for real buttons.

You Apple haters are pathetic. I bet most of you are pimply faced kids posting from your bedroom on a computer you got for Christmas. You probably never used a Mac and wouldn't know what OS X looks like if it hit you in the face.
Apple has a grown in the market and make nice stuff. There products are very useful to every day life. For example most people, 99.9% don't want their iPad to run a N64 emulator or to play Crysis. What they do want it to do is the ability to jump on the net for a recipe, do some on-line shopping or banking, read a book or check their e-mail or to even read pimply faced kids rants on Tom's Hardware.
No one is forcing you Apple haters to buy a Mac and use OS X.
