You probably have unused Amazon gift card money — here's how to check

Before you pull out your credit card for your next Amazon purchase, check if you have gift card money already sitting in your account. Many people, myself included, forget about partially used gift cards or ones they redeemed months ago and never fully spent.

Times are tight, and using every dollar you already have makes more sense than spending new money. That unused Amazon gift card balance can cover essentials, reduce what you need to charge, or go towards buying something you've been saving for.

Check your Amazon gift card balance on desktop

Open the Amazon website in your browser and log into your account if you're not already signed in.

Click "Accounts & Lists" in the top-right corner of the screen. A dropdown menu appears with various account options. Next, select "Gift cards" from the menu. This opens a new page showing your gift card information.

Your current gift card balance appears at the top of the page. This shows the total amount of credit available across all gift cards you've redeemed to your account.

Below the balance, you'll see your transaction history showing when you've added gift card funds and when you've used them for purchases. This helps track where your balance went if it's lower than expected.

If you have a physical or digital gift card you haven't redeemed yet, click "Redeem a Gift Card" on this page, enter the claim code, and the amount adds to your balance immediately.

Check your Amazon gift card balance in the app

Open the Amazon app on your phone or tablet and make sure you're logged into your account.

Tap the account icon at the bottom of the screen (the person silhouette), then scroll down to the Gift Card Balance section. Your current gift card balance displays at the top of the screen.

To redeem an unused gift card from the app, tap "Redeem a Gift Card" and enter the claim code. The balance adds to your account instantly.
