Apple's next event is only a couple of weeks away, which will include the reveal of the iPhone 17 series. However, that doesn't mean the rumor mill is done, and one such leak has shown off a line of new cases for the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

The leak comes from known source, Majin Buu, who claims that the images and specifications of the cases, called "Liquid Silicone," come directly from the factory schematics. According to the report, the cases will come with eight color options, a matte finish and soft-touch texture.

The colors listed are:

  • Deep Orange
  • Pale Orange
  • Grass Green
  • Celado
  • Fog Purple
  • Grey Blue
  • Dark Blue
  • Midnight Black

According to Majin Buu, Apple also tested colors like Black, Crag Grey, Caramboola, Tannin and Lake Green. However, it appears that these colors have been dropped, or could be saved for seasonal releases.

In terms of appearance, each case features a large cutout for the reported design change coming to the iPhone 17 Pro series. The cases are also listed to feature an “integrated lanyard design,” meaning a series of holes on the case that are designed to work with Apple’s new lanyards and help protect against accidental dropping.

The cases are also listed as being MagSafe compatible and feature button covers that aim to offer precise feedback to user actions, while also offering improved durability. Finally, the soft material reportedly offers improved grip protection, meaning less chance of the phone slipping out of your hand.

The cases certainly look well designed, but I do have some issues with liquid silicone as a material for a couple of reasons.

The main reason is that, due to the surface energy of the material, the cases can form weak bonds with contaminants like oil or fingerprints. This can lead to the cases feeling sticky, which in turn means they can attract a lot of dirt and lint over time, making them unsightly.

These case leaks follow another recent leak from Majin Buu that Apple will recreate the issue-fraught FineWoven cases with a new line of TechWoven cases that aim to "overcome the shortcomings of the controversial FineWoven."

The aim, according to Buu, is to offer enhanced durability while emphasizing a more minimal look.

At this point, we can’t say for certain how accurate these cases are, and Majin Buu has a bit of a mixed history when it comes to Apple leaks. However, the option of two official cases is always good to see and offers more variety to the customer. We will likely know more as soon as Apple unveils the iPhone 17 series, which has been confirmed for September 9, 2025.

Let us know if you would buy these cases, or do you prefer more third-party options when looking to protect your new phone?
