Spider plants are one of the most beneficial houseplants to own. Apart from their aesthetic green-and-white striped leaves, they are excellent air-purifying plants and will even rid your home of mold.

However, in addition to enjoying the standard look of this houseplant, you can turn it into an attractive table decoration. You may be thinking, why would I want a houseplant in the center of my table when I'm hosting? This unusual centerpiece uses the baby pups, also known as spiderettes, rather than the whole plant.

Spider plant pups are the small plantlets growing on long stems from the mother plant. While they can be easily removed and propagated in either water or soil, they can also be used in other ways.

How to create a spider plant platter

Pallavi Rana @pallavis_platters, who shares plant hacks on Instagram, demonstrates how to make the most of your spider plant pups and use them in an ingenious way. If you’re a houseplant fan, you’re going to want to try this hack yourself.

Rana starts by removing four spider plant pups from her main plant, then takes a low-sided glass bowl. She then adds one large painted pebble into the center of the bowl and surrounds it with smaller, smooth white pebbles.

Once in place, Rana positions the four pups between the larger pebble and the surrounding stones, then fills the outer area with small decorative stones. Finally, she fills the bowl with water so that the level is just above the small decorative stones.

The result is an attractive homegrown table arrangement that will wow your guests, while the baby spiderettes will be propagated in the water.
