How to win the battle against dust with a homemade solution
I know I’m not alone in my daily battle against dust. As soon as I’ve cleaned my home, it begins to settle once more, and no amount of polishing and wiping it away will stop it from coming back.
Dusting is a relentless chore, without much joy, so I’m all for trying out any cleaning hack that will save me time and have my house looking pristine! Unfortunately, I don’t have a cleaning fairy to call in for help — it’s all down to me to keep my house dust-free. Which is why I'll be trying this hack out right away.
How to clean away dust and prevent it from returning
When I spotted a dust-free cleaning hack on Instagram, I was more than intrigued to find out more. And what I discovered is nothing to do with using a particular cleaning cloth or technique; it’s about combining four ingredients together.
This particular home hack was revealed by @glamcleans on Instagram, and it’s based on creating a homemade cleaning solution, using staple ingredients you’ll already have in your pantry.
What you'll need
- 2 cups water
- ¼ cup vinegar
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil

- A few drops of a citrus essential oil
- Spray bottle
- Microfiber towel
These 12 x 12 inch microfiber cleaning cloths leave a streak-free and lint-free clean. They are versatile, absorbent cloths that can be used throughout your home.

Making up the solution is super easy, and once it's made you can use it again. Just follow these steps and you'll have your own homemade solution ready to go.
- Take a clean spray bottle.
- Pour in two cups of water.
- Add ½ of vinegar.
- Add one tablespoon of olive oil.
- Add 3 drops of dish soap.
- For fragrance, add a few drops of your favorite citrus oil.
- Give the mixture a good shake to combine the ingredients.
- Spray the solution onto a microfibre towel, and wipe your dusty surfaces to remove and repel dust.
- Repeat every month.
You had better believe I’m going to give this hack a go and will be delighted if it prevents dust from returning, allowing me to extend my dusting session from a weekly task to a monthly one.
