The scenic route threads its way through numerous UNESCO World Heritage sites

Passing the Chain Bridge and Fisherman’s Bastion landmarks and UNESCO World Heritage sites of the Danube, Buda Castle Quarter and Andrassy Avenue, the Budapest Marathon is amongst the most scenic in the world. To mark the race's 40th anniversary, national icon Judit Nagy returns to the course at the age of 60 to tackle some unfinished business.

Former Hungarian record holder Nagy is synonymous with the Budapest Marathon, having won the event seven times. However, she hasn't been back since 2014, when she limped out of the race and subsequently went under the knife.
The Pazmany Peter Promenade serves as both the start and the finish line, and the ruby jubilee edition is the jewel atop the crown of a two-day festival that's expected to go down as Hungary's biggest mass participation sports event of all time.
Budapest being the spa capital of Europe, the race is traditionally followed by a visit to the famous — and in some circles infamous — Szechenyi Thermal Bath.
