We're in that liminal "Twilight Zone" gap between Christmas and New Year's, where time ceases to exist and responsibilities become next year's problem. It's the perfect time to catch up on your watchlist, and Prime Video is serving up plenty of great new movies to keep you busy until all those New Year's resolutions kick in.
As with all the best streaming services, Prime Video is home to a sprawling, ever-changing library of movies and shows. Still, when you're spoiled for choice, narrowing down what to watch next can quickly become a headache. Prime Video's top 10 list is a great place to start, but not every movie that makes the cut is guaranteed to be worth the hype. That's why I've combed through what's currently trending on Prime Video and highlighted what I think are the three best movies to stream right now. That includes a star-studded Christmas movie, a heartwarming rom-com led by one very good boy, and my favorite movie of 2025.
Read on to check out my recommendations as well as the full Prime Video top 10 movies list below.
Note: This article is based on the U.S. Prime Video top 10 as of December 29, 2025.
Best movies in the Prime Video top 10 right now
'Sinners'
Ryan Coogler's vampire horror blockbuster is my favorite movie of the year, so forgive me for taking every opportunity I can to yap about it. Set in 1930s Mississippi, it stars Michael B. Jordan as twin brothers Smoke and Stack, a la "Parent Trap," a pair of bootleggers who burn more than their fair share of bridges in Chicago to start up the juke joint of their dreams in their hometown. Opening night is a rousing success, until their revelry attracts the wrong kind of crowd (i.e., vampires).
For a horror movie, "Sinners" is as much about star-crossed lovers, the scars of colonialism, and the unifying power of music as it is about supernatural scares. The first time I saw it, I was so mesmerized by the electrifying soundtrack and steady trickle of intriguing characters and back stories that I forgot I was watching a horror movie until Jack O'Connell's Remmick (truly a villain for the history books) levitated off the ground over halfway through.

'Merv'
Prime Video's showing of Christmas originals this year wasn't the strongest, but "Merv" is the one I recommend the most. It first caught my eye for its likeable pair of leads, "Daredevil's" Charlie Cox and "New Girl's" Zooey Deschanel, but its titular terrier is what convinced me to watch it because I'm a sucker for a cute dog. (And don't worry: He doesn't die at the end.)
When Anna (Deschanel) and Russ (Cox) split up, their adorable dog Merv doesn't handle the break-up well. To shake him out of his slump, Russ takes him on a boys' trip to a dog-friendly beach. Except, surprise! Anna's there too. As the trio spends time together, naturally sparks fly and old feelings surface. Cookie-cutter though it may sound, only a Grinch's heart wouldn't melt at the sight of "Merv's" charming canine star's tail starting to wag again.

"Red One'
Whether "Red One" is a modern Christmas classic or a poor man's yuletide MCU rip-off depends on whom you ask. Critics eviscerated this star-studded holiday action-comedy when it landed last year, but its 89% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is the better metric to go by, in my book. This is a fun watch that all but the surliest of Scrooges are sure to crack a smile or two, even if "Red One" doesn't make your regular Christmas movie rotation.
J.K. Simmons stars as a world-weary Santa Claus with a swagger and wardrobe that feels plucked out of the '70s. When he's kidnapped shortly before Christmas, the North Pole's Head of Security (Dwayne Johnson) must team up with hacker and perpetual naughty lister Jack O'Malley (Chris Evans) to get the big man in red back and save the day. Other stars include Lucy Liu, Bonnie Hunt, Kiernan Shipka, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, and Nick Kroll, among others.
