Prime Video is one of those streaming services that adds several movies throughout the month that weren’t originally in its slate. One such case is “What We Hide,” a psychological thriller from last year that dropped on the streaming service a few days ago and has captured attention now that it’s landed the No. 8 spot in the top 10 list. Given it features recognizable stars and an intriguing premise, I’m not surprised it’s started climbing the charts.
“What We Hide” had a limited theatrical release in summer 2025, hence why it wasn’t on my radar at the time and has since been somewhat overlooked. But its arrival on Prime Video could give it a real shot at success, since it stars Mckenna Grace, one of the most prominent young actresses in Hollywood right now, and “Stranger Things” star Dacre Montgomery. It essentially has all the right ingredients to be a strong streaming hit this week.
If you’re looking for a tense thriller with plenty of character drama and psychological dread, here’s everything to know about “What We Hide” now that it’s streaming on Prime Video.

“What We Hide” follows two sisters, Spider (Mckenna Grace) and Jessie (Jojo Regina), whose lives are thrown into crisis after their mother dies suddenly from a drug overdose. Fearing they’ll be split up and placed into separate homes, the girls make a desperate decision to conceal her death and keep it hidden from authorities. As they try to maintain a sense of normal life, their secret becomes increasingly difficult to protect.
Suspicion begins to grow among those around them, particularly Sheriff Ben Jeffries (Jesse Williams), who starts to notice inconsistencies. Meanwhile, their mother’s boyfriend, Reece (Dacre Montgomery), and others from her past begin to reappear. At the same time, Cody (Forrest Goodluck), a local teen, becomes someone Spider cautiously allows into her world.
Should you stream ‘What We Hide’ on Prime Video?
The lack of any real announcement around “What We Hide” landing on Prime Video might have caused some viewers to miss it entirely, but its top 10 placement proves it’s already breaking through regardless. Part thriller and part psychological drama, the film doesn’t shy away from the darkness of anger and grief, while also grounding itself in the story of two children pushed into a situation beyond their control, and the fragile love that binds them together.
“What We Hide” doesn’t stray from a drama’s usual formula, but its central performances and ability to weave between different emotions will keep you invested. That’s because a lot of the story’s weight relies on Mckenna Grace and Jojo Regina as the sisters holding onto such a devastating secret, with both doing an incredible job of portraying their silent grief while still offering moments of hopefulness as their bond only strengthens throughout the film.

Dan Kay’s screenplay grounds its story in the everyday strain of maintaining a dangerous secret. Basic needs like rent, groceries, and asthma medication for a younger sibling become increasingly hard to cover. There are also supporting characters like the mom's unstable boyfriend, played unnervingly by Montgomery, who help turn this into a darker thriller. Even though it’s mainly rooted in studying these characters psychologically, the film also packs in enough tension to keep the stakes consistently high.
The ending might be predictable for many, and the story’s simple structure might not scratch every thriller fan’s itch, but “What We Hide” thrives on the performances and atmosphere alone. There’s actually a poetic quality to this particular story, revealing the lengths people will go to protect both themselves and the ones they love when faced with dire circumstances. Because of that, the film keeps its characters feeling very real, and it’s sure to touch the heart of any viewer willing to sit with it.
