Thomas, a clerk, is sent by his employer, Knock, to meet the reclusive Count Orlok (Bill Skarsgård) in the Carpathian Mountains. He is tasked with convincing Orlok to purchase a ruined manor in their hometown of Wisborg.
Before he leaves, Ellen begins having disturbing dreams and suffers convulsions: those around her are worried but unsure how to help. On his journey, Thomas faces strange warnings, local hostility, and unnerving supernatural signs before arriving at Orlok’s castle. Meanwhile, Orlok, a monstrous being, transports both plague-infested rats and soil from his own burial ground back to Wisborg, setting in motion a virulent outbreak.
