Few genres get your pulse pounding and your mind racing quite like a thriller, and it's especially enthralling in serial form. Every episode, a good thriller show pulls you into its tense, twisty plots, edge-of-your-seat action and charged, suspenseful atmosphere, making them the streaming equivalent of a classic page-turner.

Prime Video has a wide selection of series that fit this bill, from darkly rendered psychological dramas to unsettling mystery-thriller series that will keep you guessing until the credits roll. All of that choice, however, means that you might have missed out on some worthy, gripping titles over the years, so Tom's Guide did the dirty work for you and has hand-picked three great but potentially overlooked series that are currently available to stream on Prime Video.

'The Devil's Hour'

At 3:33 a.m. every morning, Lucy Chambers (Jessica Raine) — a social worker and single mom struggling with familial and romantic woes — wakes up from terrifying nightmares and concerning visions. Things get even more worrisome for the English woman when those confounding premonitions and feelings of déjà vu shockingly link her to a string of brutal murders in her area.

Soon, Lucy is drawn into a police investigation as detectives try to hunt down the serial killer, and also encounters a mysterious man named Gideon ("Doctor Who" star Peter Capaldi) who "remembers" the future and might just have the answers she's looking for.

"Creepy and well-acted, 'The Devil's Hour' is a superlative horror series that will have viewers doubting reality as much as its haunted characters," raves the critical consensus on Rotten Tomatoes, where the psychological thriller has a strong 95% approval rating across its first two seasons. (A third is in the works!)

'Homecoming'

Nowadays, Julia Roberts is busy leading another thriller — Luca Guadagnino's campus-scandal movie "After the Hunt" — but back in 2018, she was at the center of the suspense-filled, star-studded Prime Video drama series "Homecoming."

In the forefront of an ensemble that includes Bobby Cannavale, Stephan James, Jeremy Allen White, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Hong Chau and Sissy Spacek, Roberts plays Heidi Bergman, a caseworker at a live-in government facility helping soldiers transition to civilian life. However, years later, Heidi is forced to confront the disturbing truths of her work as well as her own memories when a Department of Defense auditor questions why she left the Homecoming program.

The Julia Roberts-led first season has a near-perfect 98% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes ("An impressive small-screen debut" for its movie-star lead, "'Homecoming' balances its haunting mystery with a frenetic sensibility that grips and doesn't let go") but was far less acclaimed — with a 60% approval rating — for its sophomore effort, which saw a new story and lead characters played by Janelle Monáe, Chris Cooper and Joan Cusack.

'Dark Winds'

Set in 1971 on a remote outpost of the Navajo Nation near Monument Valley, "Dark Winds" follows two tribal police officers — Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) and his deputy Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) — as they investigate a series of seemingly unrelated crimes, from a ritualistic double murder to an audacious heist. The sheer darkness of the crimes has the men questioning their own beliefs as they delve dangerously deeper into a mystery that connects to their respective pasts.

The psychological thriller already has three acclaimed seasons to its name — all of which, impressively, have a perfect 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising Zahn McClarnon's "riveting" performance as a coiled cop and how the procedural "derives much of its texture from an underrepresented cultural milieu" —with a fourth installment still to come.
