April's been a big month for survival thrillers on Netflix, and on Friday (April 24), the streamer dropped a brand new release for viewers in the market for an intense watch: Baltasar Kormákur's ("Beast," "Everest") new movie, "Apex."

This brand-new watch follows Sasha (Charlize Theron), a grieving mountain climber who finds herself locked in a cat-and-mouse fight for her life after a run-in with a twisted, ruthless serial killer (played by Taron Egerton). It might not be the most original thriller you could watch, but "Apex" looks to be a big hit with subscribers; it's only been available for one day at the time of writing, but it's already the most popular movie on the platform.

'KPop Demon Hunters' (2025)

If you were worried it was overhyped last year, let me try to convince you to actually give "KPop Demon Hunters" a shot: this animated action/musical comedy movie is great. It wouldn't have become Netflix's most-watched movie of all time if it wasn't worth streaming, after all!

This streaming megahit follows the three members of KPop band HUNTRIX: Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo). They aren't just worldwide pop sensations, though: as the title suggests, they're also demon hunters, working tirelessly to keep their fans safe from an ever-present supernatural threat. They tangle with their biggest enemy yet in the film... an evil that takes the form of a charming, talented boy band of demons in disguise.

'Roommates' (2026)

"Roommates" has remained a popular Netflix release since it landed last week. It ousted "Thrash" from the No. 1 spot on release, and it's continued to be one of the most popular movies on the platform all week long (even though "Apex" is now in the top spot). certainly one of the streamer's better originals; it earned a 3.5-star verdict from TG's Rory Mellon in his "Roommates" review. He branded it "funny, likeable and more than a little relatable" and said the film was perfect for "Mean Girls" fans.

If you're yet to check it out, "Roommates" introduces us to college freshmen Devon (Sadie Sandler) and her new roommate, Celeste (Chloe East). The pair meets at their outdoor orientation program and become inseparable the moment they set foot on campus. However, as they work through the ups and downs of freshman year, Devon starts to feel increasingly irritated by (and distrustful of) her new pal, and the tension threatens to boil over "during a fateful, karaoke-fueled spring break in Panama City."
