Not every powerful crime story requires multiple seasons or a gradual build-up that takes years to fully land. In some cases, the most impactful ones are the ones that come in sharp and focused, already knowing their destination from the very beginning. That’s where crime miniseries really stand out since these limited series dive directly into the drama, the case at hand, and the repercussions that follow.
Ideal for a weekend binge or a couple of late nights back-to-back, Netflix’s crime miniseries offer the same level of gripping storytelling as a full procedural, but without the drawn-out commitment. Spanning everything from tense mysteries to real investigations, these compact stories show that a shorter format can still be just as good.
‘Griselda’ (2024)
Sofía Vergara may be best known for her Emmy-nominated role as the bold, fun-loving Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on the sitcom “Modern Family,” but the actress surprised audiences in 2024 with her transformative performance as infamous Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco in the Netflix miniseries “Griselda.” While the show is undeniably engaging on its own, it’s her portrayal of the titular character that makes it worth your time.
Article continues below“Griselda” follows Griselda Blanco (Vergara) as she flees Medellín with her children and arrives in Miami seeking a new start. Using her instincts and connections, she begins building a cocaine operation that rapidly expands into a powerful drug empire. As her influence grows, her business decisions become more dangerous as violence escalates around her, threatening both her operation and those closest to her.

‘Seven Dials’ (2026)
As the title implies, “Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials” reimagines one of the author’s classic mysteries. This time, former “Doctor Who” showrunner and “Broadchurch” creator Chris Chibnall takes charge, transforming the story into a gripping three-part miniseries. I found this to be an entertaining and engaging watch, and considering there aren't many episodes to get through, you can easily finish in one go.
“Agatha Christie's Seven Dials” is set in 1925, where a glamorous country house party takes a deadly turn after a seemingly harmless prank results in the sudden death of a young guest. Lady Eileen “Bundle” Brent (Mia McKenna-Bruce) becomes convinced there is more behind the incident and begins investigating. Another suspicious death follows days later, and a series of strange clues (including a peculiar set of seven clocks) emerges.

‘The Ripper’ (2020)
Anyone craving a true-crime documentary will likely find “The Ripper” a compelling but unsettling watch. It’s based on the real-life investigation into the serial murders committed by Peter Sutcliffe and how the case unfolded over several years. Through a striking mix of archival footage and testimony from those involved, the series exposes both shocking crimes and a mishandled investigation. Engaging in its perspective and insightful in its commentary, it’s a must for true-crime fans.
“The Ripper” chronicles the hunt for the serial killer known as the Yorkshire Ripper, who murdered multiple women across northern England between 1975 and 1980. Through interviews with investigators, journalists, survivors, and victims’ families, the series reconstructs the timeline of the case and the extensive police investigation. As the attacks continue, authorities pursue numerous leads, including letters and recordings sent by someone claiming to be the killer.
