Netflix new releases: 7 movies and shows you need to stream this week (May 4-10)
Don't miss 'Legends,' 'Remarkably Bright Creatures' and more
Netflix is adding just 15 new movies and shows to the streaming service this week, but you won't want to miss the biggest title coming in the next few days. "Legends" is a brand-new crime thriller series from the creator of the BBC series "The Gold," and it's potentially Netflix's answer to "Slow Horses." Trust me, you'll want to have it on your watchlist.
You'll also want to add "Remarkably Bright Creatures" to your watchlist. This new Netflix original movie stars Sally Field as Tova, an elderly caretaker helping a man named Cameron (Lewis Pullman), find his father. It's got a great cast and definitely is the top movie to watch on Netflix this week.
Those aren't the only movies, shows and live events to add to your watchlist this week, though. Here's the full schedule of everything new on Netflix over the next seven days, along with my top picks for what you need to stream.

New on Netflix this week: Top picks
"Legends"
Genre: British crime thriller series
What it's about: It's 1990s England, and Don (Steve Coogan) wants to win the war on drugs. His plan? Assemble a group of everyday customs officers, completely untrained in espionage, and send them undercover to infiltrate gangs and global drug-dealing operations.
Why you should watch it: If this feels a bit like the 2023 dramatization of the Brink's-Mat robbery, "The Gold," it should. That show was created by Neil Forsyth, who is also the creative mind behind "Legends." So if you love a British spy thriller like "The Gold" or "Slow Horses," this show is a must-watch.

'Remarkably Bright Creatures'
Genre: Mystery drama movie
What it's about: Tova (Sally Field), a widow, forms an unlikely bond with a giant octopus while working at an aquarium. She also forms a bond with Cameron (Lewis Pullman), a newcomer to her town, and they work together to solve a mystery regarding his family.
Why you should watch it: Whether or not the mystery of this movie is good, the cast is excellent. In addition to Field and Pullman, "Remarkably Bright Creatures" also stars Colm Meany, Kathy Baker and more, including Alfred Molina as the voice of the octopus, Marcellus.
Watch "Remarkably Bright Creatures" on Netflix starting May 8
'Lord of the Flies'
Genre: British drama series
What it's about: A plane crashes in the Pacific, stranding a group of young boys. Initially, a boy named Ralph (Winston Sawyers) attempts to lead the group, but he and "Piggy" (David McKenna) soon find themselves embroiled in a revolt led by Jack (Lox Pratt), who looks to upend the youths' newly formed society.
Why you should watch it: This show already debuted in the U.K. and critics raved about the four-part series. It's currently rated 92% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, though it's worth noting that audiences are much less positive on the show.

'Worst Ex Ever' season 2
Genre: True crime docuseries
What it's about: "Worst Ex Ever" takes some of the worst romantic partners ever and shines a light on the sensational, dark relationships gone wrong. This season, the subjects include convicted murderer Wade Wilson and Geoffrey Paschel, a “90 Day Fiancé” cast member who was convicted of kidnapping and domestic assault.
Why you should watch it: This four-part season uses testimonials, bodycam footage and animated reenactments to portray its evil exes. If you're a true crime fan, this show is a must-add to your watchlist.
Watch "Worst Ex Ever" season 2 on Netflix starting May 6
'Funny AF with Kevin Hart'
Genre: Reality competition series
What it's about: Kevin Hart is on a mission to find the next great stand-up comedian. To do that, he's bringing Keegan-Michael Key, Tom Segura, Kumail Nanjiani, Chelsea Handler, and Nikki Glaser to help him find the next person who is "Funny AF."
Why you should watch it: The first four episodes are taped and will drop today (April 20). The next two will drop a week from today, on April 27. But the semifinal and final rounds of this competition will be live on May 4 and 5, respectively. So watch now to be prepared for that live stand-up showdown.

'The Roast of Kevin Hart'
Genre: Live comedy event
What it's about: As part of Netflix's annual Netflix is a Joke Fest, the streaming service is hosting a live roast of blockbuster comedian Kevin Hart. Even better, they're streaming it live for everyone to see.
Why you should watch it: I mean, who wouldn't want to see a room full of people take their shot and skewer the stand-up icon? Plus, it's hosted by Shane Gillis, so I'm hoping the two Philadelphia comedians go toe-to-toe to prove who is the more hilarious Eagles fan.
Watch "The Roast of Kevin Hart" on Netflix starting at 8 p.m. ET on May 10
'Countdown: Rousey vs Carano'
Genre: Sports docuseries
What it's about: Netflix takes you behind the scenes as MMA legend Ronda Rousey returns to the octagon to take on MMA pioneer Gina Carano.
Why you should watch it: Rousey (12-2, 9 submissions, 3 KOs) was the best women's MMA fighter in the world at one point. But this will be her first fight in nearly a decade. Carano (7-1, 1 submission, 3 KOs) is no slouch, and seeing them both prepare for this fight could give you an idea of who will ultimately win.
