The thriller genre is one of the most crowd-pleasingly varied, from high-stakes spy stories to mind-turning psychological dramas to high-concept sci-fi spectacles.

And on Apple TV, one of the best streaming services around, thriller series make up some of the best shows on the platform, racking up not only devoted viewership but also heaps of critical acclaim and shelves of shiny industry awards.

'Severance'

"Severance" aired its surprising and suspenseful season 2 finale in March of this year and fans of the psychological sci-fi thriller — which was the most Emmy-nominated show of the year, taking home eight statuettes — have been not-so-patiently waiting and theorizing for the upcoming third season ever since.

Executive produced and primarily directed by Ben Stiller, the Apple TV sensation centers on employees at Lumon Industries, a biotech corporation that performs a procedure known as — you guessed it — "severance," which surgically divides a person's memories between their personal and professional lives.

When Lumon employee Mark S. (Adam Scott) spots a work colleague outside of the office, the encounter has him beginning to question his reality and those around him. The acclaimed ensemble includes Patricia Arquette, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, John Turturro and Christopher Walken, among others.

Based on Hugh Howey’s bestselling trilogy of novels, the Rebecca Ferguson-led dystopian drama "Silo" transports viewers to a toxic, post-apocalyptic future, where 10,000 humans live in a giant underground silo set with 144 levels and strict regulations for the community's survival from the deadly environment above.

However, when the sheriff and others wind up mysteriously dead, Juliette Nichols (Ferguson) — an engineer who works on generators in the lowest levels of the bunker — kicks off an investigation that uncovers dark mysteries of the community's past and present.

So far, two seasons and 20 episodes of "Silo" are available to stream on Apple TV but there's more on the way: Season 3 has officially wrapped as of May 2025, and the thriller has already been picked up for a fourth installment.

'Slow Horses'

Given how extremely bingeable the British spy thriller is, not to mention how stunning that recent season 5 finale, it's excellent news for "Slow Horses" fans that the William James Smith-created caper has already been renewed for a sixth and seventh series.

Adapted from Mick Herron’s "Slough House" novel series, the Apple TV show follows a group of not-so-elite MI5 service rejects — including River Cartwright (Jack Lowden), Catherine Standish (Saskia Reeves), Louisa Guy (Rosalind Eleazar) and Roddy Ho (Christopher Chung) — who are relegated to a department led by the obnoxious senior agent Jackson Lamb (the great Gary Oldman).

”Slow Horses” had a stellar 97% average approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes across its five installments; the site’s critical consensus praises: “'Slow Horses' refreshes the espionage genre by letting its band of snoops be bumbling, with Gary Oldman giving a masterclass in frumpy authority.”
