I asked ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity to predict the Super Bowl 2026 winner — here’s who they picked

I am, at best, a casual sports watcher. If my hometown teams are winning, I’m glued to the game — and if they’re not, I’m usually yelling at the TV.

This year’s Super Bowl doesn’t feature any New York teams, but I’ll be watching anyway. Between the blockbuster commercials, big movie trailers, and the halftime show, the game is always a spectacle — and this year is no different. On Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots will face off, which should make for an exciting matchup.

So I asked ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity to predict the winner — and see whether their picks lined up with each other, or with human fans.

ChatGPT

I went straight to ChatGPT to get its expert football analysis first by simply asking it, “Which team do you think will win Super Bowl LX and why?” In just a few seconds, it picked the Seattle Seahawks and based its final decision on the current odds/predictions made by oddsmakers, the strong defense of the team itself, the momentum and consistency the Seahawks produced during the most recent NFL season, and the historical pattern of the team.

Here’s a more thorough breakdown of ChatGPT’s reasons for choosing the Seahawks as the Super Bowl 2026 champions:

  • Oddsmakers have Seattle as the spread and moneyline favorite vs. New England, indicating confidence they’ll win straight up
  • Seattle’s defense has been one of the best in the league this season, particularly at limiting scoring and yards — a huge advantage in a championship game
  • They finished the season strong with a dominant NFC run, including a convincing NFC Championship win to reach the Super Bowl
  • In seasons where Seattle earned the No.1 seed with a dominant defense, they’ve often reached the Super Bowl — and this year could see them go even further

Even though ChatGPT sees the Patriots as the underdogs, it still gave me a few reasons why they could pull off a huge upset this Sunday. It recognized the team’s strong offense, quarterback Drake Maye’s breakout season, and a history of overperforming in February.

Gemini

Next up was Google Gemini — and it also picked the Seattle Seahawks to win the Super Bowl. What stood out to me was how Gemini arrived at its answer, which felt more analytical than ChatGPT’s.

Instead of just explaining its reasoning in paragraphs, Gemini laid everything out in a side-by-side comparison chart. It broke down both teams’ regular-season records, scoring defense, key players, and current betting odds (with Seattle favored at –240 and New England listed as the underdog at +195).

From there, Gemini made its case for the Seahawks using three clear points that genuinely made me think it might be onto something:

  • The "Sam-aissance": Sam Darnold has completely revitalized his career in Seattle, coming off a massive 346-yard, 3-TD performance in the NFC Championship win over the Rams
  • Elite Defense: Seattle finished the regular season with the #1 scoring defense in the NFL, allowing only 17.2 points per game. Their ability to generate pressure while staying disciplined in the secondary makes them a nightmare for young quarterbacks
  • Momentum: They’ve outscored their playoff opponents by an average of over 12 points

Gemini gave the Patriots a little bit of credit by laying out three reasons as to why they have a better chance of winning the Super Bowl 2026 than most people think. It championed the team’s coach, Mike Vrabel, who has helped the team become more of a defensive force. Gemini also pointed out Vrabel’s knack for producing a game plan that can chip away at the opposing team’s primary weapon.

And lastly, it also celebrated quarterback Drake Maye’s ability to succeed in clutch moments by stating, “even in a snowy, low-scoring AFC Championship (10-7 over the Broncos), he used his legs to score the game's only touchdown.”

Perplexity

Perplexity didn’t shock me one bit when it gave me its pick for the winning team at this year’s Super Bowl. It ultimately chose the Seahawks — the main reasons it arrived at that final decision were the team’s impressive defense, plus their offensive weapons in the form of quarterback Sam Darnold and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Perplexity also took the picks from betting markets and pre-game analysis from professional sports commentators into consideration before making its prediction.

I was surprised, however, to see Perplexity lay out how the Seahawks will overcome the Patriots: “A plausible script is a one‑score game where Seattle’s defense forces Maye into a couple of key mistakes, while Darnold and JSN hit just enough explosive plays. I’d frame it as something like Seahawks by 3–7 points, but with real upset potential for New England given Maye’s talent and the Patriots’ defensive improvement.”

The takeaway

It turns out that the NFL fanatics I know were on the money with their predictions, as they perfectly matched up with the ones made by three AI agents. ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity all chose the Seahawks as the team that’ll stand tall at the end of this year’s Super Bowl.

I’m a huge fan of upsets (I’ll never forget watching the NY Giants beat the Buffalo Bills at Super Bowl XXV, and that same inner-city squad overcoming the Patriots at Super Bowl XLII), which is why I’m hoping the Patriots put up a decent fight and do the unthinkable. We’ll see how things play out this Sunday, folks!
