18. Rechargeable Battery Tests

Battery Life

The use of power-gulping DDR333 memory and the rapid cycling of the video memory come at a price. This becomes particularly obvious when the battery life of the W511A during gaming is directly compared to that of the Acer TM8103WLmi: the device from Gigabyte uses about thirty percent more power in this case. For Office users, the W511A, which is completely oriented to multimedia use, consumes only about ten percent more power. In combination with the relatively low capacity of the batteries chosen by the manufacturer, the result is that operation even using only Office leads to a rather modest battery life of exactly three hours.

The values in the above table clearly show the enormous spread in the performance of widescreen notebooks, depending on use scenarios, graphics subsystems and device types.
