If you're browsing this year's Memorial Day sales for a good deal on a top-rated sleep tracker, you're in luck as I've found five unmissable offers. The best deal so far is on the Apple Watch 11, down to $299 (was $399) at Amazon. There are four other good deals to consider too, including the Hivisuals Health and Sleep Tracking Ring, down to $35.99 at Walmart.

I've spent over 3,000 hours testing the best sleep trackers on the market. This quest has involved countless hours of collecting sleep data, analysing the accuracy of metrics based on my perceived sleep experience, assessing software and hardware, and evaluating whether it's really worth the money. So, I know a good sleep tracker (and good price) when I see one.

Here's what I recommend in this year's Memorial Day sales...

How to choose a sleep tracker

  1. Set a budget that suits your needs
  2. Think about overnight comfort
  3. Think about whether you want to wear it in the daytime and which metrics you want to track

So you want to invest in a sleep tracker, but it all feels pretty overwhelming? I'm here to guide you towards the right option for you.

First, you need to think about your budget. Do you want to begin with a budget option before investing in something a little more premium?

Do you want a one-off purchase or are you willing to pay a rolling subscription fee (this tripped me up after buying my first Oura Ring)? Ultimately, if you have a budget in mind — that may be anything from $50 to $300 — you can narrow down your search.

Next, think about what metrics you want to track. Hint: I pay most attention to sleep stage data, specifically deep and REM sleep, and HRV, as these make it clear whether your body is recovering well or needs a little more rest; whereas just looking at sleep duration alone doesn't necessarily indicate how well rested you are. Trackers from well-known brands like Apple, Garmin and Oura included these metrics, though more budget picks may not.

Finally, question whether you'll be able to comfortably wear the tracker overnight. I've tested trackers of all shapes and sizes and can confirm I find a ring most comfortable. A smartwatch in bed is just flustering to me. And if you want to get rid of wearables in bed altogether, consider a contactless under-mattress tracker like the Withings Sleep Analyzer.
