It was the hottest June on record in parts of the U.S. and with more heatwaves expected, modern problems require modern solutions. The high-tech Eight Sleep Pod mattress cover is one of the best smart beds and mattresses on the market and it's pushing the boundaries of cooler comfort. Our lead tester described the Pod 4 as "any hot sleepers dream".

The ideal temperature for sleeping through the night
The Eight Sleep smart mattress cover is fitted with a series water pipes that run across the surface and connect to the main Pod. These pipes warm or cool throughout the night, adjusting the bed to a temperature of your liking.
The lead tester in our Eight Sleep Pod 4 mattress review describes being "blown away" by the Eight Sleep's temperature control during a heatwave. When she climbed into bed, the surface was perfectly chilled and because the bed monitors and changes the feel as you sleep, she never woke up sweaty.
In winter, on the other hand, she could use the controls to "gently warm" the mattress before climbing in — none of that 'cuddling up in a snow drift' feel.
Temperature plays an important part in your sleep-wake cycle. In the evening, your core temperature naturally drops, signaling to your body to drift off.
But when the room is too hot, your body can't lose this excess heat, and you'll struggle to fall asleep. And when you do drift off, you might find your sleep remains in lighter stages, causing frequent nighttime wake-ups.
The Eight Sleep's integrated climate control allows you to take charge of this temperature drop, so you can sleep better whatever the weather.
And don't forget, this is a smart mattress cover: in-built sensors monitor throughout the night to create a consistently comfortable feel. Plus, the longer you use it, the more it learns your preferences. By the end, our tester found it had "seriously leveled up [her] sleep quality."
Smaller budget? Try this...
The BedJet 3 isn't quite as high-tech as the Eight Sleep but it does cool your mattress quickly, even in a heatwave. The climate control system sits underneath your bed and delivers a comfortable cooling breeze throughout the night. At $498 in the sale (was $699) it's back down to the lowest price we've spotted this year and while it might be an investment upfront, BedJet claims it can save you money by cutting down utility bills.
