I’ve loved the Puma Velocity Nitro line of running shoes since the original came out, and took the Velocity Nitro 3 out for a half-marathon on my first run in it as I was so sure I was going to like it.
It didn’t disappoint, and I used the Velocity Nitro 3 as part of my shoe rotation for months and raved about it to any runners I spoke to who needed new sneakers.

Puma might not be the first brand you think of when it comes to road running shoes, and for a spell, it was behind the likes of Nike and Adidas.
However, a major revamp of the Puma shoe lineup in 2021 introduced several great sneakers, including the OG Velocity Nitro, and since then, Puma has consistently made some of the best running shoes available each year.
The Puma Velocity Nitro 4 is a standout of 2025 for me, and does has a lighter and springier design than the Velocity Nitro 3. However, the Velocity Nitro 3 is considerably cheaper than the new shoe, thanks to this deal, and better value in my opinion.
It has a comfortable ride thanks to the stack of foam in the midsole, with the top layer being made from a nitrogen-infused material that delivers a good amount of bounce. The Velocity Nitro 3 is great for your easy training runs, but has some speed for faster efforts too.
The PumaGrip outsole on the shoe is another key feature, because it delivers reliable grip in wet and even icy conditions. If you’re hunting for a new running shoe to use for the winter, the Velocity Nitro 3 should top your list.
