The F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix live stream will bring to an end the most exciting F1 season in years and you can watch it FOR FREE in some countries.

The big news ahead of the race is that Max Verstappen of Red Bull will be on pole after a thrilling qualifying session yesterday that raised as many questions as it answered.

Though Verstappen was fastest ahead of Lewis Hamilton, he will start on the soft tires whereas the Mercedes man will be on mediums. 

As a result, Verstappen should be able to open up a lead from the start — assuming nothing goes wrong in the first corner — but it also means Hamilton will be able to pit later, and that he'll have the quicker rubber later in the race.

In short, it keeps everyone guessing as to how the race might play out, and that's entirely in keeping with a season that has seemingly been scripted by Hollywood. Since the pair first went wheel to wheel at the opening Bahrain Grand Prix right up until last week's drama in Saudi Arabia, they've traded fastest laps, pole positions, victories and the title lead multiple times. 

Along the way, there's been drama, controversy, rancor and outright hostility. They've collided three times and come close about a dozen more; there have been accusations of cheating and bad sportsmanship. Frankly, it might be more fitting if the title was decided in the boxing ring.

Fortunately, it will instead be decided on the track, with the rivals level on points going into the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. And that means whoever finishes ahead here will be crowned champion.

Elsewhere on the grid, Lando Norris will start third after a superb lap, with Sergio Perez in the second Red Bull fourth. But Hamilton's Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas could only manage sixth and may not be able to help out much. Nikita Mazepin, meanwhile, has tested positive and won't take part (not that he'd have finished anywhere other than last anyway).

How to watch the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix live stream in the US

As with all F1 races this season, the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix live stream will be shown on ESPN2.

How to watch the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix live stream in the UK

The big news in the U.K. is that Channel 4 has struck a deal with Sky Sports to show the race FOR FREE today. That means the Grand Prix action will be available to anyone watching live TV or via the Channel 4 website or the various C4 apps on smart TVs, Roku, Chromecast, games consoles and other devices. Coverage will start from 12 p.m. GMT, with the race itself at 1 p.m.

Of course you may still want to follow on Sky Sports, and Sky Sports F1 will show all of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix action, and in up to 4K resolution on both Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports F1. There'll also be plenty of build up and analysis beforehand.

You'll need to be a Sky Sports subscriber to watch the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix live stream: the Sky Sports F1 channel is available for £18 per month, and there are packages available that give you lots more channels for only a bit extra. 

To follow it in ultra high-definition 4K, you'll need to pay a little more: you'll need a Sky Q set-top box and a package that includes both Ultra HD and Sky Sports F1. In total, that'd come to £45 a month, plus a £20 one-off payment if you're not an existing subscriber.

Who has the advantage in the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix?

Max Verstappen, in the Red Bull, has had the advantage for much of the season and was 21 points ahead as recently as three races ago. But each time Hamilton has pulled him back and they go into this final contest level on points and with all still up for grabs.

What happens next is anyone's guess — although we do know for sure that whoever finishes ahead in Abu Dhabi will be crowned 2021 F1 champion.

Although actually, that's not quite true; if one finishes ninth and the other tenth but takes fastest lap, they would still be level on points. Any other season we'd dismiss that as outlandish, but you never know… 

More likely is that both crash out while grappling for the lead, and if that happens Verstappen will win the title based on having scored nine victories to Hamilton's eight. That would be somewhat unfair, given that Verstappen's extra victory came in the Spa race-that-wasn't-a-race, but it's what the rules say.

The most likely scenario of all, though, is that they finish first and second after yet another thrilling race to the flag. And in that case, it really will be a matter of winner takes all. Just don't ask us to predict which order they'll cross the line in.
