‘Merv’ (Prime Video)
The real draw of “Merv” is, well, Merv, the titular terrier that is so heartbreakingly cute he could probably negotiate world peace, yet here he is just trying to cope with his humans’ messy breakup. Zooey Deschanel and Charlie Cox play exes awkwardly sharing custody of their mopey pup, whose post-split depression pushes them into a sunshine-soaked “cheer him up” trip to Florida.
Nobody involved in this movie is pretending this is a radical rom-com reinvention, but watching two people dance around their feelings while their adorable dog all but begs them to figure it out gives the movie its soft, irresistible holiday glow.

‘F1 the Movie’ (Apple TV)
Do you feel a need for speed? Where “Top Gun: Maverick” took to the skies, “F1” heads to the racetrack to keep your adrenaline pumping. Under direction from “Maverick’s” Joseph Kosinski, Brad Pitt takes the wheel as Sonny Hayes, a fallen star coaxed back to Formula 1 to save his old teammate’s struggling team, only to clash with rookie phenom Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris).
The story sticks to classic sports-drama beats, but the blistering race sequences turn clichés into pure spectacle. With Pitt in full movie-star form, the film burns rubber—and nearly scorches the screen.
