Its low-key theatrical release and promotional tour means "Hamnet" has passed somewhat under the radar, so if you're just catching up with the rave reviews universally hailing it as one of the best films of 2025 and a front-runner in all of the major Oscar categories, depending on how patient you are you may wish to head out to your local multiplex pronto or hold out a little longer.
Intelligent, stirring and poignant — in many ways a cultural counterpoint to "Wuthering Heights" — Chloé Zhao's drama was adapted from Maggie O'Farrell's multi award-winning 2020 work of historical fiction, which itself was inspired by the death of William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal) and Agnes Hathaway's (Jessie Buckley) son Hamnet (Jacobi Jupe) at the age of 11.
The tragedy of Hamnet strikes not just once but over and over, at the heart of the bond between Agnes and William, at their relationship with Judith (Olivia Lynes), Hamnet's fraternal twin, and again at Agnes when William's career takes off in far-flung London. Initially disgusted that Hamlet's name should be bastardised by "Hamlet", the production allows them to finally grieve together.
Here’s where you can stream “Hamnet” right now.
How to watch 'Hamnet' in the U.S.
Currently, the only way to watch “Hamnet” at home in the U.S. is by purchasing or renting it through a PVOD service, such as Amazon, Apple TV, YouTube and Fandango. Prices start at $19.99 for rental, and $24.99 to purchase the picture outright.
We expect “Hamnet” to become available for streaming soon, in late February or early March. It's likely to be exclusive to Peacock, and you’ll probably need the $10.99/month ($109.99/year) Premium package, which includes movies.
How to watch 'Hamnet' in the U.K.
In the U.K., “Hamnet” is available to rent or purchase on a POVD-only basis from Amazon, Apple TV and YouTube. Prices start at £15.99 for rental, and £19.99 to buy.
How to watch 'Hamnet' from anywhere in the world
“Hamnet” is available to rent or buy in many regions around the world. However, if you’re abroad and can’t access the movie, you can still watch it thanks to the wonders of a VPN (Virtual Private Network).
The software allows your devices to appear as if they're back in your home country regardless of where in the world you are. So ideal for viewers away on vacation or on business. Our favorite is NordVPN. It's the best on the market:
