With the temperature rising, kick off summer with new shows premiering this week on Netflix, HBO Max and more of the best streaming services, as well as broadcast and cable TV.

This week's TV slate is led by the series finale of "Hacks," which sends Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder on new paths. Two Netflix shows return with their second seasons: the vacation comedy "The Four Seasons" and the teen mystery "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder." Making their debuts are the space drama spinoff "Star City," which retells the story of "For All Mankind" from the Soviet side," and "Spider-Noir," a hardboiled superhero detective thriller.

The vibes: “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” goes to “Sin City”
The plot: Set in a shadowy alternate-universe version of 1930s New York, “Spider-Noir” follows Ben Reilly (Nicolas Cage), a washed-up private investigator haunted by his former life as a superhero. When a new case lands on his desk, he’s pulled back into the mask, the mob underworld and all the personal baggage he thought he’d left behind for good.

Expect Cage to deliver hard-boiled monologues like he was born chain-smoking. In our "Spider-Noir" review, our writer Martin Shore said that Cage excels in his role.

The vibes: If Nancy Drew lived in the age of TikTok
The plot: After cracking the Andie Bell case in the first season, Pip (Emma Myers) would really like a break from amateur detective work. Naturally, that doesn’t last long. As Max Hastings’ trial looms, a key witness vanishes, dragging Pip and Ravi Singh (Zain Iqbal) into another increasingly dangerous mystery. The stakes get higher, and being a “good girl” even harder.

The vibes: What happens on vacation does not stay there

The plot: Tina Fey’s cozy-messy friendship dramedy returns with another round of seasonal getaways, only now the gang is navigating life after Nick’s death — and Ginny’s pregnancy. Kate (Fey), Jack (Will Forte), Danny (Colman Domingo), Claude (Marco Calvani), Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver), and Ginny (Erika Henningsen) bop around with trips to the Jersey Shore to upstate New York to Italy. They sip wine and eat lavish meals, all while dealing with unresolved grief and passive-aggressive grudges.

The vibes: One last hurrah for Deborah and Ava as they figure out what their futures hold
The plot: Deborah (Jean Smart) lost her late-night show and her Madison Square Garden gig, but she still made her comeback in her own way with a stand-up act in Central Park. Now, she and Ava head to Paris for their long-awaited vacation, but from there, uncertainty faces both. Deborah looks to open her boutique Vegas casino, while Ava preps her comedy pilot. Their paths will seemingly diverge, but something tells me these two will always find a way to work together.

The vibes: “For All Mankind” from the POV of the Soviets
The plot: This spinoff series returns to the 1960s to retell the alternate-history space race from behind the Iron Curtain. After the USSR was the first to land on the moon, the program is running high, but cosmonauts, engineers and KGB officers operate under constant surveillance. Where the original series feels like a heroic saga, “Star City” functions more like a tense spy thriller.
Premiere date: Episodes 1-2 on Friday, May 29 at 12 a.m. ET
Where to watch: Apple TV
