Even though this might be an obvious pick, I had to include “The Town,” given that it's co-written and directed by Ben Affleck, who did an incredible job at bringing this gritty story to life. “The Town” follows a skilled crew of bank robbers from the tough Boston neighborhood of Charlestown, led by Doug MacRay (Affleck). After a heist goes slightly off course, the group takes the bank’s manager, Claire Keesey (Rebecca Hall), hostage before releasing her unharmed once they’ve escaped.
To stay close, he approaches Claire under the guise of chance, and their acquaintance gradually deepens. Meanwhile, the FBI, led by Special Agent Adam Frawley (Jon Hamm), starts closing in on the crew as evidence mounts linking them to the robbery. As Doug tries to balance his dangerous double life and his bond with Claire, he also must deal with the pressures from his volatile partner Jem (Jeremy Renner) and other members of the crew.

‘Den of Thieves’ (2018)
For anyone wanting something with a bit more action, “Den of Thieves” should be your next watch. This thriller follows an elite unit of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and a notorious criminal crew as their paths collide over a daring crime. After a violent armored truck hijacking, Detective Nick “Big Nick” O’Brien (Gerard Butler) and his squad begin tracking the suspects, led by ex‑military commander Ray Merrimen (Pablo Schreiber), who quickly becomes the police’s prime target.
As evidence mounts, the detectives turn their attention to a local bartender named Donnie (O'Shea Jackson Jr.), whom they suspect may be tied to the criminals’ plans. Meanwhile, Merrimen’s crew reveals their true objective: to break into the heavily guarded Federal Reserve Bank in downtown Los Angeles and steal untraceable cash marked for shredding.

‘The Departed’ (2006)
Of course, since we have a movie starring and directed by Affleck, it’s only fair to have one with Matt Damon.“The Departed” centers on the city’s fight against organised crime, with Irish mob boss Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson) placing Colin Sullivan (Damon) inside the Massachusetts State Police as a secret informant, giving him access to law enforcement plans and strategies. At the same time, the police assign Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio), a young recruit with ties to the criminal underworld, to infiltrate Costello’s organization.
Over the years, both men rise in their respective roles, earning trust from the groups they’ve infiltrated. Eventually, both sides realize they have a mole in their ranks. Sullivan and Costigan race against time to uncover each other’s identity before their own cover is blown, leading to intense confrontations and very dangerous moves on both sides that put lives on the line.

For a gripping Netflix/Affleck pick, which certainly had me on the edge of my seat, you should stream “Triple Frontier.” The story follows five former U.S. Army Delta Force operatives who reunite to pull off a daring heist in a remote region of South America. When Santiago “Pope” Garcia (Oscar Isaac) learns from an informant about the hidden stash of cash belonging to a notorious drug lord deep in the jungle, he travels to Florida to convince his old teammates to join him on a mission to seize the money for themselves.
A routine raid on a guarded house turns into a high-stakes ordeal when the team uncovers more cash than anticipated, triggers an ambush, and struggles to move their loot across dangerous terrain, including an overloaded helicopter flight over mountains and desperate flights through enemy-controlled areas.

‘Heat’ (1995)
We’re ending this list with a classic, of course, and one that helped fuel the cop thriller genre. “Heat” centers on the intense clash between two formidable figures in Los Angeles. Veteran thief Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro) leads a skilled crew of criminals who pull off high‑stakes robberies, including a dangerous armored car heist that draws the attention of the police.
