If you thought the UFL was just an overflow league for ex-college football players who didn't make the grade in the NFL, there's so much you've missed. The short history of the UFL, which was born out of the 2024 XFL-USFL merger and is co-owned by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, has been tumultuous to put it mildly, but in December J'Mar Smith, the star QB who led the Birmingham Stallions to the UFL title two years ago and back-to-back USFL titles before that, blew the lid off.
In a surreal sequence of events, Smith turned investigative reporter to expose an outrageous secret plot, said to have been spearheaded by by AFL svengali Mike Repole. Despite making repeated assurances to the contrary and encouraging fans to invest in their local teams by buying up their merch and tickets, the UFL proceeded to dissolve every roster and relocate 75% of its teams — three to different states.
It was only after significant pushback and mass resignations that the league allowed teams to retain up to 12 players apiece.
The 2026 season comprises 40 regular-season games played across 10 weeks, followed by a two-week post-season comprising a pair of semi-finals and the UFL Championship game. However, just as much drama looks set to play out off the field as on it.

For the 2026 UFL season, games are being televised nationally on FOX, ESPN, ESPN2, FS1 & ABC in the U.S..
