After 12 wins in a row raised expectations, England were brought back down to earth at Murrayfield as they were swept aside by a rampant Scotland. Steve Bortwick’s side were dominated at the breakdown and struggled to convert chances as they suffered a 31-20 defeat. However, they now have the chance to deliver an immediate response and gain revenge for their only defeat of last year’s tournament. England will hope the addition of Northampton’s Henry Pollock can provide the spark needed to deliver a big performance.
After being blown away by France, Ireland responded in the perfect fashion with a hard-fought win over Italy. It was a nervy performance from the home side but there were plenty of positives, not least the performance of Jack Crowley whose introduction in the second-half proved vital to victory. With victory against England needed to keep their championship hopes alive, coach Andy Farrell may well decide to make changes to the starting XV, with Crowley and Jamison Gibson-Park likely to come into the team.
