One of the key reasons I rank Prime Video among the best streaming services is its commitment to the classics. While rival platforms often focus on new films, Prime Video keeps its library stocked with legendary movies from years gone by.
August 2026 is proving no different. Prime Video recently added more than 50 movies to its library, including a handful of features that are at least a few decades old. These movies have stood the ultimate test of time and remain essential watches even in the 21st century.
So, if you also have an appreciation for classic movies, here are three recently added movies to Prime Video for your watchlist this week.
‘Robocop’ (1987)
The ‘80s delivered some of the most beloved and fondly remembered action heroes in cinema. Alex Murphy, aka Robocop, most certainly ranks on that list. This robotically enhanced law enforcer is an icon. It wasn’t always that way. “Robocop” received mixed reviews upon release, and many were critical of its intense violence. However, over time it found its audience, and its mixture of no-nonsense action, smart social commentary, and slick sci-fi elements has ensured that “Robocop” remains a firm favorite.
Set in a dystopian Detroit, which is overrun with criminal activity and crime on every street corner, Alex Murphy (Peter Weller) is a beat cop left for dead by a ruthless gang. On death’s door, Murphy is transformed into Robocop, a heavily armored cyborg with his memories stripped away. His mission is to clean up the streets by any means necessary. But when Robocop learns the truth of his creation, he decides to turn on his own scheming masters.

‘Blue Velvet’ (1986)
David Lynch passed away in January 2025, and that’s a loss of cinematic brilliance that is still difficult to swallow. The director might not have helmed a feature since 2006, but his body of work is remarkable, and “Blue Velvet” is regularly cited as one of his strongest movies. This exploration of the dark side of suburbia remains intriguing, unsettling and highly stylish. “Blue Velvet” has inspired countless imitators, but none match its quality.
Frequent Lynch collaborator Kyle MacLachlan plays Jeffrey, a college student who returns home to Lumberton, North Carolina, after his father suffers a stroke. Back in the suffocating mundanity of suburban existence, Jeffrey begins to unravel a twisting mystery when he finds a severed human ear near his home; this leads to a fascination with a troubled singer, Dorothy (Isabella Rossellini), and things get darker (and more disturbing) from there.

‘The Thomas Crown Affair’ (1968)
You know a movie is a classic when it gets not one, but two remakes. “The Thomas Crown Affair” is a legendary heist caper starring Steven McQueen and Faye Dunaway. It was remade in 1999 with Pierce Brosnan and Beau St. Clair with respectable results, and another spin is heading our way next year headlined by recent Oscar winner Michael B. Jordon. But don’t bet on it beating the original effort. This ‘60s flick is timeless entertainment.
The titular Thomas Crown (McQueen) is a millionaire who concocts a plan to rob a bank out of boredom. He assembles a team of five strangers to pull off the heist for him, and it appears to go off without a hitch. Dispatched to investigate the robbery is insurance agent Vicki Anderson (Dunaway), which kickstarts a cat-and-mouse game with romantic undertones. “The Thomas Crown Affair” is a twisting good time that keeps you guessing.
