Netflix just gave us a major 'A Man on the Inside' season 2 update — including plot details and a release date
'A Man on the Inside' season 2 hits Netflix on November 20

If you're waiting to reunite with Charles Nieuwendyk (Ted Danson), you're in luck: Netflix has just dropped a ton of first-look images (and fresh cast details) for "A Man on the Inside" season 2. The warm-hearted comedy series reunited Danson with "The Good Place" creator, Mike Schur, and impressed viewers and critics alike when it dropped last year (it's 96% on Rotten Tomatoes), becoming a mainstay of the Netflix top 10 for five weeks after its release.
The streaming service subsequently announced that "A Man on the Inside" had been renewed in December, confirming the show would return in 2025. Yesterday (August 21), Netflix gave us a big update about what's in store; after completing his first mission at the nursing home, Charles is heading back undercover, this time at Wheeler College.

"We are thrilled to make another season of "A Man on the Inside", starring young up-and-comer Ted Danson," Schur told Tudum. "From our partners at Netflix and Universal TV to the writers, cast, and crew, it's a truly exceptional team of talented and lovely people, with one notable exception (young up-and-comer Ted Danson, who's kind of a nightmare)."
Here's everything that we've just learned about "A Man on the Inside" season 2, including plot and cast details, and the series' release date.
What else do we know about 'A Man on the Inside' season 2?
Netflix has released the synopsis for "A Man on the Inside" season 2, and it offers some enticing details about the next case. This time, Charles is undercover at Wheeler College, trying to identify the person who is blackmailing the college's president.
It reads: "Eager to take on another big undercover case, Charles Nieuwendyk (Ted Danson) gets his chance when a mysterious blackmailer targets Wheeler College president Jack Berenger (Max Greenfield), who enlists Charles to go undercover as a professor. Who's making these threats? Does it have something to do with the iconoclastic billionaire Brad Vinick (Gary Cole), a Wheeler graduate, and his proposed donation to the school?
"Charles finds no shortage of possible suspects, but his attention gets diverted by free-spirited music teacher Mona (Mary Steenburgen), whose zest for life awakens feelings he thought he'd buried after the passing of his wife. Is he ready to open his heart again at this stage in his life? And more importantly, has he fallen for the very criminal he's been sent to unmask?

"Meanwhile, his daughter Emily (Mary Elizabeth Ellis) is inspired by the changes in her father and uncovers a long-ignored passion, while P.I. Julie (Lilah Richcreek Estrada) embarks on her own journey of growth as she reconnects with an important figure from her past."
As the synopsis and new photos confirm, "A Man on the Inside" season 2 includes several returning faces. Alongside everyone mentioned above, the returning cast list also includes Stephanie Beatriz and Stephen McKinley Henderson reprising their season 1 roles of Didi and Calbert.
Naturally, though, a new case brings with it a whole new set of suspects, and Netflix has now confirmed who has boarded the series for "A Man on the Inside" season 2.
Joining the show for season 2 are Gary Cole as successful executive, Brad Vinick, Michaela Conlin as Wheeler College economics teacher, Andrea Yi, "New Girl's" Max Greenfield as Wheeler College President, Jack Beringer, Sam Huntington as journalism professor, Max Griffin, and Jason Mantzoukas as Apollo Lambrakis, a contract who dreams of penning the Great American Novel.
Constance Marie is also on hand as Vanessa, a con artist who now works as a source for Julie, David Strathairn as popular English department head, Dr. Cole, Jill Talley as overworked Wheeler College provost, Holly Bodgemark, Madison Hu as Wheeler College junior, Clair, Lisa Gilroy as photographer (and Brad's wife), Kelseigh Rose, Linda Park as Wheeler College's fine arts department director, Elizabeth Muki, and Mary Steenburgen as Mona Margadoff, a famous musician with ties to Charles' latest case.
Excited? Netflix has confirmed that "A Man on the Inside" season 2 will premiere on Thursday, November 20, 2025. Variety adds that the entire second season (also eight episodes long) will premiere at launch.
