Designed and produced in Bensons for Beds' Kitemark accredited UK factory, the new Response by Slumberland mattress collection aims to bring a wider choice of latex mattresses to the market. With three beds to choose from, the Response by Slumberland mattress collection starts at just £649.99 at Bensons for Beds.

Like many of our best mattress picks, the Response beds are hybrids, made with foams and coils. But unlike typical hybrids, the Response mattresses have swapped polyurethane foams for eco-friendly natural latex. Plus, all Response mattresses use a dual layer of combined micro and pocket springs, for added support and relief.

We’re big fans of latex, as this material is extremely durable and resilient. It’s also naturally hypoallergenic and, as a breathable substance, helps to prevent heat from building up in your mattress. And it provides superb pressure relief, which can be a real boon if you suffer with back pain.

The Slumberland Response range consists of three mattresses – the Luxe, Premium and Ultimate. All three feature the same basic build (latex plus coils), but the Premium and Ultimate contain an added comfort layer, to bring a little more cushioning to the beds.

Natural latex beds can be notoriously expensive, but the Slumberland Response lineup offers latex mattresses for various budgets. You can pick up a double Luxe model for £799.99, with the most expensive model — the Ultimate — coming in at £999.99 for the same size. Let’s look at the deals and the mattresses in a little more detail…

Slumberland Response Latex Luxe Mattress: £649.99 at Bensons for Beds

Slumberland Response Latex Luxe Mattress: from £649.99 at Bensons for Beds
Starting from just £649.99, competitive for a mattress with natural latex, a double Response Latex Luxe will set you back £799.99 (now £679.99 in the 15% off sale). The mattress comes in the choice firm or extra firm, so we expect it to suit back and stomach sleepers, as well as those with a heavier build. You’ll also get a 40-night sleep trial and an 8-year warranty.

Slumberland Response Latex Premium Mattress: was from £749.99now £637.49 at Bensons for Beds

Slumberland Response Latex Premium Mattress: was from £749.99 now £637.49 at Bensons for Beds
Every size of the Slumberland Response Latex Premium Mattress is reduced in the 15% off over £650 sale, knocking a double from £899.99 to £764.99. This model comes in a choice of medium or firm, with an added comfort layer for more cushioning and pressure relief. You’ll also get the same extras as with the Luxe model — a 40-night trial and an eight-year warranty.

Slumberland Response Latex Ultimate Mattress: was from £849.99now £722.49 at Bensons for Beds

Slumberland Response Latex Ultimate Mattress: was from £849.99 now £722.49 at Bensons for Beds
The top of the range Response Latex Ultimate mattress still comes in at just under £1k for a double, costing £999.99 (£849.99 in the sale). This model is available in soft and medium firmness options, with a thick deep comfort layer. We’d suggest this model for side and back sleepers, along with those of light and average weights. Again, you’ll get a 40-night trial and an eight-year warranty.

Slumberland Response Latex mattresses: Price

We think the Response Latex mattresses are well-priced, particularly considering they contain natural latex — a material that's known for its high cost. Sold through Bensons for Beds, these are the current RRP of the three models:

Single:
£649.99
Small Double: £799.99
Double: £799.99
King: £949.99
Super King: £1,149.99

Small double: £999.99
Double: £999.99
King: £1,149.99
Super king: £1,349.99

Reductions and sales on the mattresses will inevitably be tied in to offers on the Bensons for Beds site and there’s currently 15% off when you spend over £650. This means you can save on every mattress in every size, except for the Luxe single size.

How do these mattresses compare to other latex models? Our current top mattress pick is the Relyon Bridgwater Dunlopillo Latex mattress, which retails at £1,299 for a double. However, this did receive 5/5 stars in our review, and we haven't had a chance to try the Response range just yet, to see if it can compare.

Slumberland Response Latex mattresses: Features

All three models in the Response range use a combination of dual layer micro and pocket springs, combined with a natural latex layer. Models feature between 2,050 and 3,050 springs, with these coils responsible for the firmness options on offer. The different tensions in the springs offer soft, medium, firm, and extra firm finishes. In addition, these coils will contour to the body for head-to-toe support and spinal alignment.

The natural latex layer provides the pressure relief — the responsive contouring of latex is particularly beneficial to those with aches and pains. You’ll get good breathability from latex as well, which helps to prevent heat from building up. Latex has a bouncier finish than memory foam, so expect to sleep on top of the bed, rather than sink in. Individually pocketed springs should help to cut down on movement, but latex mattresses rarely offer as much motion isolation as the memory foam equivalent.

The quilted Truecomfort cover is made from 75% recycled plastic, adding to the range’s eco-credentials. It’s designed to be breathable, for cooler nights, as well as providing a cushioned comfort. The Premium and Ultimate models also use an extra comfort foam layer for more cushioning, with the Ultimate featuring Ultra Deep cushioning.

The Slumberland Response Latex Mattress range aims to provide a latex mattress for a wider variety of sleep styles (and budgets), so more people can enjoy eco-friendly rest. We'll be keen to investigate these mattresses further.

When testing the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid for Tom's Guide, Jo said: "I loved the back support and pressure relief it offered. Plus, it looks far more expensive than it is."
