iPhone 17 delays — how long will you have to wait if you order today?

iPhone 17 pre-orders are live, but unless you already put your order in, chances are you won’t receive your phone on the September 19 launch day.

This is often the way iPhone launches go, as so many users make a beeline for the latest model after holding out on upgrading for as long as possible. Except things are a little different this year, with the usually popular iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max phones joined by a much-upgraded base iPhone 17, and the new, eye-catching iPhone Air.

To give you a hand, we've checked the stock of all new iPhones at major US retailers and carriers to produce an easy reference for finding your desired model, color, and memory combination.

Apple

The iPhone's home store is seeing high demand across the board. The iPhone Air will arrive the quickest at this point, although certain iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 models and colors will still be delivered before the end of September. You could be waiting until mid-October if you want an iPhone 17 Pro Max from the Apple Store.

Walmart

While Walmart isn't guaranteeing delivery by launch day on September 19th, every single model combination will arrive the following week on September 23rd. You can't get an unlocked option (your choice is Verizon, T-Mobile or AT&T), which could complicate things, but otherwise this is an all-around great place to buy your new iPhone from.

Best Buy

Availability is generally good for all the new iPhones at Best Buy. Only the white iPhone Air and silver iPhone 17 Pro Max have delivery dates beyond launch day, and even then, only in certain memory versions. This includes unlocked and carrier-specific phones, which is great to see.

AT&T

Ordering an iPhone 17 Pro Max from AT&T may mean you're waiting until the end of October for delivery. But fortunately, other models will either arrive on launch day or shortly after. Even a few Pro Max units are due to arrive before September's out, so consider if you're willing to pass on a silver phone in favor of a blue or orange one.

T-Mobile

If you're considering ordering an iPhone from T-Mobile, getting it on launch day or several weeks later is highly dependent on color. Sage iPhone 17s and Silver iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models are in high demand across all memory variants, with the iPhone 17 Pro Max experiencing the worst availability at present. Fortunately, for the iPhone 17 Air, all available configurations are still due for a launch-day delivery.

Verizon

While there are a lot of different dates than a Verizon-powered iPhone 17 could arrive, all of them except for a 512GB Sage model should arrive by the end of September. The same goes for the iPhone 17 Air and iPhone 17 Pro. The iPhone 17 Pro Max has shorter wait times here than at other retailers and carriers, but once again, the silver-colored model is the one in shortest supply.
