USA vs Wales preview

After not qualifying for Russia 2018, the USA will be back with a purpose for the 2022 World Cup. Coach Gregg Berhalter has a squad full of promising young stars to call on, spread across some of Europe’s top club sides such as Dortmund’s Gio Reyna, Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic, Milan’s Sergiño Dest and Valencia’s Yunus Musah. In fact throughout the qualifying process, the USA starting XI was the youngest of all the sides going to Qatar, at just 23.5 years old. Berhalter’s hope is that experience of coming third in a very competitive CONCACAF qualifying will have helped the youngsters grow. The USA will be aiming to finish at least one place higher up in Group B to qualify for the knockout stages.

Wales have qualified for their first World Cup in 64 years, but Rob Page’s men are not there to make up the numbers. As his country’s all-time top scorer, eyes will be on Gareth Bale to produce some moments of magic at what will likely be his last international competition. The LAFC man’s swansong is somewhat in doubt however with injuries hampering him and he has yet to play a full 90 minutes for his new side since arriving stateside in June. Experienced midfielders Joe Allen and Aaron Ramsey have also been a huge part of Wales’ recent international success and will be desperate to play in Qatar.

With some of the best young players in the world on show, and Gareth Bale potentially signing off for good after the tournament, the USA vs Wales live stream is an event not to be missed.

USA vs Wales team news

There's good news for U.S. soccer fans as Weston McKennie has been declared fit to start. The Juventus midfielder had been struggling with an small injury but that hasn't prevented him from making the starting XI. Gold boy Christian Pulisic is of course starting, as is Josh Sargent of Championship side Norwich. Tyler Adams, who plays for Leeds in the Premier League, will captain the USA for this match.

Welsh fans have waited more than six decades to see their team play in another World Cup, and this match will be savored regardless of the result. Gareth Bale takes the captains armband, and the explosive pace of winger Dan James could be the difference maker. Joe Allen has been ruled out due to a hamstring injury, and Kieffer Moore drops to the bench.

USA: Turner, Dest, Zimmerman, Robinson, Tim Ream, Adams, Musah, McKennie, Pulisic, Weah, Sargent.

Wales: Hennessey, Mepham, Rodon, B Davies, Roberts, Ampadu, Ramsey, Wilson, N Williams, Bale, James.
