Ring’s flagship video doorbell is our favorite sub-$100 option because it's inexpensive, easy to install and has good quality video. This model is battery powered, features two-way talk and motion detection. It has color night vision and is compatible with Alexa.

Arlo Video Doorbell 2K

When we tested Arlo’s 2K video doorbell we liked that it can be installed with a battery or hardwired, and we approved of the sharp 2K resolution and 12x digital zoom. It also has clear and sharp audio, works well alongside smart assistants. The integration with its own app was great, but without a subscription it lacks some essential features.

Arlo Video Doorbell HD

Much like the Arlo’s 2K video doorbell, the HD option can be operated either via we liked a battery or hardwired, has clear two-way audio, head to toe views, and unlocks more features with a subscription. This model also has a built-in siren, infrared night vision and guests can leave you a message on it.

Eufy Wireless Video Doorbell E340

We've liked Eufy products in the past for their ease of installation, good field of view and sharp picture. Because they come with a microSD slot, there's no subscription required, as they can offer local storage. This battery powered model also offers color night vision, person/package/vehicle detection, and a delivery guard that watches your floor area for packages.

ecobee Smart Video Doorbell (Wired)
ecobee Smart Video Doorbell (Wired): was $159 now $119 at Amazon

The ecobee Video Doorbell is our favorite option for HomeKit users, because it gives a great view of a porch area, and provides person and package detection. It also works with Alexa and Google Home, and integrates with ecobee's smart thermostat. When we tested it, we particularly liked the digital pan and zoom feature.

Ring Wired Doorbell Pro

Ring is a big name in video doorbells, and we've tested almost every product they've made. The Wired Doorbell Pro (2nd gen) is an older model — the newer 3rd-gen version offers a 4K video resolution and improved night vision — but the 2nd-gen version still offers great head-to-toe video. Like all Ring models, this one has package detection but will need a subscription to unlock all the features.

Eufy Video Doorbell E340 (with Rechargeable Battery)
Eufy Video Doorbell E340 (with Rechargeable Battery): was $199 now $129 at Amazon

Eufy's dual model doorbell is our favorite non-subscription model – it has a 2K front camera with a 1080p package camera, local storage, and both battery or wired installation options. We found that the people and package detection both worked well when we tested it, and we like that it can continue to record even when the power goes out.

Google Nest Video Doorbell (Wired, 3rd Gen)

It's not often you see a brand-new product go on sale, but Nest's newest video doorbell — which has 2K resolution and works with Gemini AI — is currently 40% off. This is a hardwired-only model, though.

eufy Video Doorbell E340 (with Chime)

This Eufy model still has the dual cameras, local storage and solid features of the others on this list, like color night vision, delivery guard, and two-way communication, but bundles them along with a chime. The minibase chime can alert you to people at your door throughout your home, and can be paired with a HomeBase as well as an Alexa or a Google Assistant.

What to look for in a video doorbell deal

As with any home technology purchase, you’ll want to sort out which features are important to you – and which ones are requirements to your home – before you hit that buy button. Here’s what you need to know as we ramp up to those Black Friday deals.

Battery vs wired

If you’re already well versed in the world of video doorbells, and have installed a few in an easy-to-access location, then a wired video doorbell isn’t an issue for you. However, if you need to put your video doorbell someplace where there isn’t any power, you’ll want to look into battery-operated models. Just keep in mind, those batteries will need to be changed or recharged at some point.

Field of view

It’s important to consider what area you’re looking to capture with your video doorbell’s camera. Newer models have a more vertical or squarer field of view, meaning you won’t see as much side-to-side, though you will see things closer to the foot of your door–which is ideal for viewing package deliveries.

Package detection

While more and more models feature package detection, some of them have it as a subscription feature, so if that’s something that’s important to you, make sure it’s specifically mentioned as an included feature, like with the Eufy and ecobee models.
